2007 E86 dead power steering!
Hello,
The EPS ( electric power steering assist) light came on and my steering wheel became very heavy. I have checked the EPS fuses, everything seems fine. The battery seems to be fine. I didn't see many DIY post on this topic. Some of the search results was pointing to controller failure but I would like to see if anyone here has experienced similar issue and how they solved it. Thanks in advance.

Hello,
Thanks for the reply. I already scanned it, however it couldn't connect. No communication with the steering controller.

It's been 2 years and got used to manual unpowered steering but now I really want to fix it.
I thought I would check if this happened to anyone and if there is a DIY fix. It doesn't look like it's common. The electric steering works fine when It's driven for a while on a hot day. Thanks in advance.

This is the vender who will re-build the EPS: https://www.ecutesting.com/product-c...ower-steering/
The vender is in the UK but, does world-wide customers. I'm not sure if there is a specific D/I/Y on youtube on this, But, I've read a guy's posting on the UK Z4 forum that claims he can take one out in an hour and then reinstall it in another hour. |

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I saw their service before, they also sell on eBay. I will have to take the motor out ship it and wait. At that point it’s probably much simpler to have a shop does it. Quote:

Seems like any variation of Z4 gets major respect in the Uk and it’s popularity there means that one can get stuff like this fixed easy peasy. I think roof motor repairs and relocations can be had for great prices too.

I Agree 100% and this is why I follow the posting on the UK's Z4 Forum. They attempt to repair parts which are generally simply tossed in the trash here in the US. I've gained a lot of respect for their D/I/Y postings.
