Hey Rick.

Not much is sup - workin hard and driving for pure pleasure.

Gettin a clear Stoneguard fitted this week - from a mob called "OziCozi". Just to the front bumper, not half way up the hood as well. Can't bear the seam.

What was this thread about again? Oh yeah - (!). See it all the time. In fact if you turn off one layer of DTC, you can get the rear end about a metre sideways before it comes on.

FYI I have found the best way to launch the car is with one layer of DTC off, otherwise with DTC fully on, all you get is traction control intervening.

Is your car still all shiney and clean Rick?

Yeah... so far no rain. It's got a fine layer of dust, though.

What seam? Could you see the seam on Emma? Go get the hood done, mate.

They only do about 1/3 of the hood due to the size of the film. I saw another car with a similar thing and as it ages that edge becomes more apparent. If the entire hood could be done in one piece, then I'd go for it.

Good idea with the front bumper protection... I didn't do it and now I see a few chip marks on the bumper. I figure once it becomes unsightly, I'll buy a new bumper and do it right next time.

My last car had a few chips in the bumper, many on the hood and even some of the fenders. Covering 1/3 of the hood would save a bout half of the chips. But unless it is all done, including the fenders, then what's the point?

Also I think that with the bumper being plastic, it doesn't chip as easily, being more elastic than metal. The Subaru also has crap paint - very brittle and thin, so I hope the Z fairs better in that department.

I'm doing a road trip at the end of September, a lot of country roads and semi's to contend with. Bugs too. At least with the Z4, the entire front of the car is one piece, so that's a good thing.

By the way - who's Emma?

how much is a new bumper (I call it a duster)? Mine has quite a few dings cause its so low its hard not to scrape it.

Put more air in the front - min. 35psi. The runflats need more air. Also 39 rear sounds high - give it a go, watch the wear across the tread to ensure it stays even.
Well thats what the manual said. 33/39.... I dont know if Im going to stop fretting but as time goes by I feel a little better about losing her. I made a mistake that I must live with it as it cannot be reverted.

She was. The seam's very hard to spot on her.

I've seen a few Porsches that were done and you can barely see the seam when looking for it. I wish that i'd have had my wife's vw done when we bought it last year.

I have seen a couple of BMW's done on the showroom at my dealer and it looks crappy to me. It reminds me of the clear plastic slip covers from the 60s that old ladies put on their "good furniture" to protect it but it make it look like crap, feel like crap and essentially no body used it anymore. That is what I think of when I see this stuff on a car, and you can see it immediately.

I wonder if we are all talking about the same thing here.

The stuff I am getting is completely clear once on, a lot like window film, just thicker.

The only way that you can ever see it is if you see an edge, like right across the hood from left to right. On the front bumper it will be one piece and completely undetectable.

Rick - was Emma's hood completely done, or just in part? Are there any joins in the film? Can you take a pick of the join/edge for me? You also said that you didn't get the bumper done - how come you did the hood and not the bumper?

The ones I have seen have had a seam. But there must be an edge, they can't possible take body panels off to wrap them then re-install them, can they?

I went for the 3M stuff offered by the stealership. I'd never do it through them again, as they never explained it to me properly (and thus no bumper coverage), and I can get it done cheaper elsewhere.

The hood is a one-piece, and only goes up probably ~ 40cm up the hood (~15"). The front part of the hood wraps around to the underside of the hood.

It's so hard to take a pic that shows the edge. It's barely noticeable!

BTW, the front quarterpanel's done too (edge continues along the same line as the hood), although you can't see it from the pic.
Oh... and before anyone says anything, those are water droplets on the car

NOW I understand.

That seam doesn't look too bad. Getting the fender done was a good idea. I might have a chat with the guy tomorrow and see what happens with that.

Thanks Rick for your input on this.

I still think clear bras look better on your passenger than on your car.
