Reverse cut-outs?

This is probably just a crazy idea that won't work, but I am curious if anyone has ever attempted this or if anyone thinks it's possible, given the little room we have to work with under our cars.

I'd like to see if I could setup my car with what I'm calling "reverse cut-outs", like so:

The thought is that I can retain the RPi look, the RPi sound and then with a flick of a switch route a set of cats or a set of silencers into the exhaust to enjoy a peaceful ride.

The obvious question is why not just do it the regular way: Quiet mufflers and exhaust cut-outs?

a) I won't have the RPi look
b) I won't have the loud exhaust not, the fumes, the vapors, (dare I say, the flames) coming out of the rear of my car. All those wonderful things will be lost)

I thought I was going to be saved by something like this butterfly muffler, however it requires an x-pipe to be upstream of it because it closes one side down during the silenced mode
