Also, be careful to not over torque the battery post clamp bolts, breaking the bolt. They are realy pricey to replace (about $20 each on ebay). Do not get the Audi ones if you need them, only the BMW clamp bolts will work.

Exactly...snug is fine...otherwise it is broken, and expensive to fix. Several people noted that to me when I had to change out my battery. Glad I had that warning.

My car was originally equipped with a group 47/H5, and had a plastic slide-in adapter in the battery well to secure the right side on that size of battery only. Other cars were equipped with the 48/H6 and had a shorter adapter, which I've ordered to properly secure my new H6 replacement.

The picture you referenced is for an M car, which has a different trunk mounted battery box arrangement.

Ahhh...That makes sense. For some reasons, I thought you have an Z4MR

As my car just passed its 8th birthday, it's starting to crank a bit slowly so I assume it's due for its 2nd battery replacement. I'll go with the O'Reilly AGM.

Note! Consumer Reports had a TON of problems with the H6 AGM battery from AutoZone - many failed prematurely, at a matter of WEEKS. They thought it was a fluke and tested more, with similar results. Must be a manufacturing issue or something. I have one in my ZHP that I put in about 2 years ago, no issues. I'll steer clear this time.

So.. just replaced mine at lunchtime with the Napa 9848. Napa gives a 10% AAA discount, be sure to ask for it - even if you're not a member, because they probably won't ask to see your card.

Just realized that my old battery did not have a vent tube attached and none was in sight, and I slapped the new one in without it crossing my mind until now. It was a stock BMW AGM that had been replaced once under the 4/48 warranty. Should a vent tube be there? Should I be concerned leaving it there without one? It's been that way for 3+ years, but... sheesh.

Thanks for the heads up on the AutoZone AGM as I just installed one this past summer. Will need to keep a closer eye on it.

Requesting some help...

Picked up a '08 Z4 3.0si Coupe from CarMax a few weeks ago. The replacement battery CarMax used is not nearly the correct physical size of the BMW OEM battery - it slides around. I am going to replace the battery with a BMW OEM (I have one from my E90 that is in good shape). My issue is the vent tubing is missing. I'm asking for someone to post a pic of the original OEM battery vent set up. The parts are a connection elbow, tubing and, a grommet. These are all the same parts on my E90, so I'm familiar with them. However on my Z4 the elbow is still with the car, but it is stuck in the vent hole in the floor pan. On my E90 the elbow attaches to the battery, not the car body. A pic of the original vent tubing set up will help me out with putting the battery installation back to original equipment standards.

Thanks in advance.

I'm going to venture back into mine to try to locate the tube too, so I'll take some pics. Not sure how soon I'll do it, probably won't have time till next week.

Found this in my collection of images from the forums. (Pre mod photo of battery box size reduction for dual exhaust install. IIRC smaller battery is an Odyssey.) Hope this helps.

Thanks. Since my post, I was able to rig something up with generic parts. Since that event, I bought the OE parts from BMW. RealOEM.com does not show 2 elbows as part of the assembly. My car had the elbow that's on the battery box (lower elbow). I was missing the tubing and battery side elbow.

Thanks for the post; it confirms what I thought was the OE set up. CarMax installed an H5-sized battery in my car, which doesn't fit with the sliding clamp mechanism, so soon I will get the H6-sized battery and swap it out.

Nothing is listed by Optima as a "direct fit". I'm sure a little bit of research and minor battery box modding would resolve the issue.

Glad to help, and again thanks to Finnegan for initiating this thread.

Following the various threads from those that have purchased from CarMax; batteries, oil, oil filters.... are always suspect.

Bought the O Rielys's battery today. It was the AGM 48PLT. Was an exact match of the oem. Did not have any fitment issues and seems to work just fine.

The store I went to was suggesting a 47 after looking at their database. I went with the info from this thread to make my choice. Thanks for the help!

Replacement Battery #2....

Vehicle manufacture date: Nov 2006
Vehicle sell date: Dec 2007
Pro-actively replaced battery: Jun 2011
Pro-actively replaced battery: Oct 2015
Both replacements: OEM

Oct 2015 replacement: Cranked slow; able to drive vehicle immediately for replacement.
Driving conditions: Only drive 5.5 miles to bus park and ride daily; 11 miles daily.
Battery life cycle info: Typical info is 4-5 yrs.
Comment: the S54 3.2L is 11.5 compression ratio; this adds additional battery cranking stress.
Comment: If vehicle stranded, this vehicle requires a flatbed; expensive tow.

Installed a NAPA 9848 over the weekend. Perfect fit replacement. I did find out that the Indy mechanic that replaced the battery when I bought my car 4 years ago (part of the PPI) did not hook up the vent tube and it was missing the final "L" bend to connect to the battery housing. Will be ordering part number 61211377835 when I make my next parts order from ECS or Turner.

My June 2007 build date Z4MC is still cranking on its original OE battery. During the winter months it is on a battery tender much of the time and stored in a garage.
Will replace as a prophylactic measure sometime soon. Looking at the NAPA 9848 as the replacement.

My battery died from sitting too long while in storage. My battery tender was faulty. Ended up replacing battery under warranty from o Reilly's after purchasing original battery in May of 2015.

Replaced with same Agm 48PLT.

Good battery. Perfect fitment. Good servive.

Replaced mine this year with the same. Perfect fit, and, just like the spreadsheet says they still had it listed as the 47 not 48. 48 is correct.
