Navigation System no go after unplug

Hi, a little plea for help here.

My Navi screen no longer powers up. No pop up motor, no screen.
I have checked the glove box fuses, all ok.
Any tricks I am missing to get the pop up screen powered up again? This seem to be that the car does not "see" the navigation unit and power it up?

The Navigation computer seems to be working though as my Drive Cam still displays the date and speed info on the video. it looks like the fault is onlt with the pop up unit (no working motor, no working screen). Is this on fuse 49 the same as the rest of the Navigation?

Well I just removed the radio & nav screen to repaire the plastic around the screen case, hope I don't run into the same problem when I reinstall it. A problem I've been having with mine is loseing the date, time, trip, mpg and other settings when I turn the car off. I don't loose the preset radio stations, but everything on the nav screen. Hope someone comes up with a diagram for you, as it would help me troubleshoot my problem also.

I assume this is an aftermarket NAV system since I'm not aware of a factory HDD option. Maybe you should contact the manufacturer.

BTW, you should be able to find the wiring schematics here.

Nope, is absolutely a factory unit.

The ones here in the states use a DVD not a HDD. I didn't know any of the E85/E86 models had a HDD.

"What a revoltin' development this is!"

I wonder if NavCoder would show any diagnostic info or let you give it a reset?

Well at least I now know I don't have to check for broken wiring connections. It looks like it need to be connected to a diagnostic computer to "tell" the car the unit is there again. Stupid "smart" systems. Really designed to make sure you can't work on your own vehicle at all without the highly expensive involvement of a BMW dealer: if you can get them to respond at all, my local BMW dealer won't even answer a request for a price for a second key for my car.

If anybody knows how to get the car to see that the screen is attached, please chime in. (tried disconnecting the battery for 2 hours)

Probably could do it with a diagnostic cable and coder. Bought mine so long ago I can't recall who but EBay is a good bet. IIRC it was well under 100 bucks.

For future reference was the battery disconnected when you did your initial work?

Edit: Found thread. Cheap solution (hopefully).

It's good idea to always disconnect when touching anything electronic on these cars. Error codes are set for almost everything and unpredictable results follow.

The cable is a great help in tracking down issues and correcting faults. Pays for itself in one use.
