Battery reset?

A buddy as well as the dealer told me when I replaced the battery I had to bring it in and have the computer reset to ensure the proper voltage was being sent to the battery. Seems the computer senses the old battery status and needs to be reset, so it doesn't overcharge your new one. Is this myth or truth?

It's a truth on some, but a myth on our cars.
No need to "register" the new battery.
