3.0sia Coupe vs M Roadster

I would like to get one more 2 seater on top of my 1M,which one would you guys suggest?

p.s. I don't really need a convertiable, but these are only 2 available now.

M roadster for sure. You'll have the benefit of driving top down and more importantly, the last great i6 BMW made. Enjoy the 1 series M! =)

If you don't need a Roadster, then a Z4M Coupe'.

How's the built quality of the softtop? I heard a lot of negative comments of the softop on other cars and experienced it on my parents' E36 Cabrio back to old days.

Is the handling of M Roadster really better than a non-M Coupe?

Yes. M coupe is leaps and bounds above the regular Z4. Had both. Love my M. Liked my Z4.

I know M Coupe leaps and bounds above regular Z4.

But how about when it comes to a M Roadster vs a normal sport pack Coupe?

You won't notice any difference in handling between the M roadster and M coupe on public roads. Better tires will make a bigger difference than chassis flex.

My soft tops have held up extremely well. They are also quiet and liveable on a daily basis. The heated glass window is definitely a perk of the Z4. The only top problem I've encountered on either Z is the rollers above the windshield where the top latches have gotten difficult to turn, so the top would get hung and require a gentle push to begin to open. One spray of WD-40 several years ago and the problem went away.

If you already have a 1M, I think you're crazy not to go with a 2 seat roadster.

he's asking about regular coupe vs M roadster. Yes, the M roadster will handle significantly better + it has better brakes and LSD

Love my 3.0si Coupe, but would trade for an M in a heartbeat! They are just much more of a drivers car (don't get me wrong, the 3.0si is definitely a sports car, but the M is an M)

In most cases this would be the case....I on the other hand choose to buy a 3.0i over an M. But for most of the reasons why people choose the M.

I wanted a daily driver in the summer months (no winter), and everything that the M gives a driver is something I avoided (could I control myself??).

If I had come across a 3.0si I might have given it a closer look, but the M test drives made me decide to not buy one....

Sometimes it might be too much of good thing!

In Hong Kong? I would think getting a MANUAL only M would be a waste of time?

^on the contrary, hong kong has some amazing roads along repulse bay and mount victoria. if it's a purely weekend toy, i'd say m-roadie all the way. gorgeous vistas + mountains and valleys + awesome weather year round just begs to be enjoyed.

I didn't think the si came in Auto either, although I could be wrong.

Yeah, the 3.0si is better on gas, and not quite as abrasive. Definitely love it for my DD and my g/f asked me what car I would get if I was going to replace it and the only thing I could think of that I would trade it for (within my price range) would be an M coupe.

Hey Hawkeye!

My 3.0si roadster is in fact a six-speed automatic, with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. It can also be shifted "manually" from the shift lever by popping it into D and sliding it to the left. Push forward to downshift and pull back to upshift. However, the paddle shifters respond much more quickly than the shift lever.

Like you, I would only trade my car for an M. And only a low mileage Imola Red M roadster with heater power seats would fit the bill for me. Other than that, I'll be happily driving my 3.0si for some time to come.

+1 on the ragtop - BMW's current ones are some of the best on the road - that being said it will never give you the quiet of a coupe, but the sun, the wind, its sweet.
