coolant gauge
Just wondering if any forum members have added a coolant gauge to their M's? If so- how difficult and is there an existing sensor to tap off?

I use a Kiwi OBD to WiFi and the DashCommand app on an old iPod clipped to the dash.
Water temp is on a standard OBD-II "PID", so anything that will display stuff from your OBD connector will work. Main screen looks like this, but with actual values and bars when in the car and running:

I added a Stack coolant and oil pressure gauges. You can use an adapter and run the sensor at the coolant drain plug on the right side of the block or they make a kit that comes off the coolant hose. I used the block drain. Intgr8r posted a diy on this.

The Kiwi is a WiFi server. Direct WiFi connection from the iPod/iPhone to the device.
I tried Bluetooth, but it was slow and kept dropping the connection.

I use the Intravee II ipod interface to display coolant temp on the Nav screen, it will even show the max temp reached.

Here's a couple of crappy pics of it in the car.
On the way to work I peaked at 180 horsies and about 195°F coolant. (Runs hot in stop-go traffic).

"If you're using Google Chrome, go to the three dots on the right side of the screen and click them. A drop down should appear. Hover your mouse over "More Tools," and when the next drop down appears, click on extensions. Go to the link towards the bottom that says "Get more extensions." In the search box, type "Photobucket Fix," and hit enter. Click the install button and once it's done, you should be able to see photobucket pictures again. For FireFox users, click on the three bars on the right side of the screen, then click on add ons. Click search for "photobucket hotlink" and click install. Same result." I'm a firefox user...it worked perfectly. Now...I think this only works on desktops...I couldn't get it to work on an android tablet that uses Chrome. |
