Never thought I would own a BMW
Hi all, Just joined this forum and brought with me my recently aquired 2007
Z4C. This was a big thing for me as I NEVER would have thought anyone would see me in a BMW. I am a diehard Porsche guy (one's still in the garage!) and 6 months ago if someone told me that I would own one I would have asked what they were drinking. Over the past 3 months this forum helped tip the scales toward the Z4C over a Porsche and I just wanted to say thanks. BTW, I love the car, so much I bought it twice. But that's another story. thanks again |

Nice, but if it was an M you would've been 10x happier.

I felt that way about the Z4. I never much appreciated them until I stopped and took a look at them a couple of months ago. Now I think the Z4 is one of the most beautiful cars on the road.

The 2 seater verses a 4 seater choice was a big problem for me. We are a family of 3 and this would be my daily driver. So after months of trying to pick a car my wife said if you want the BMW just buy it. So I did, but I felt really bad picking a car that can't haul the family around. That and the fact that my wife never thought I would really do it. (side note, the "but honey you told me to buy it" didn't help one bit) So for 5 days I drove the car around and thinking a family man would not buy a car like this, bad choice, and called the dealer. He was happly to take the car back, and he it, but I lost my Mercedes that I traded for the BMW. So for the next 14 days I drove my classic 911 until I could find a family (ish) car. And everyday I looked at the empty passenger and back seats. Not once did the 911 have to move more than 1 person. Her SUV did all the heavy moving and my car (whatever it was) just went to work and back. This and fact that I missed that Z4C so much she begged me to go back and get it. I tried to explain that this isn't a pair of jeans we are talking about, but with out me knowing she called the dealer and the next day we bought the car again. Now, as if someone upstairs was trying to tell me that everything is good, two days later, when my son and I went to Sebring the last 2 seats they had up stairs were right above the BMW pit crew and M3GT's. I didn't know that until we sat down and I heard "daddy look, BMW" |

Thought about a M but I was concerned about the ride as a daily driver. I saw a Z4C on the road one day (and never seen another one since) and that's what brought me to BMW, who knows where I will end up.

This is about as stupid of a statement as one can read on this forum.
Congrats on your "new to you" Z4C. These cars ar a lot of fun, no matter what version.

I think the consensus is that the 3.0si is peppier around town, while the M excels on the highway and track. And at the engine speeds you would likely be using around town, the power and torque of the two cars are vey similar. The 3.0si will be cheaper to own through its better gas mileage and maintenance costs (such as brakes which are cheaper on the 3.0si). And clearly, the M owners are happy with their choice. As I have posted here before, here is a link to a good review of the 3.0si. As you can see, its no slouch: http://www.auto123.com/en/bmw/z4/200...00&artid=90628 Here are a few quotes. Eh -ahem: "Having driven the less powerful Z4 and been quite content with its gusto, I was absolutely elated burying my foot into the 3.0si. This engine pulls ferociously- especially on the highway where passing power is frankly startling." And: "Keeping the engine above this threshold produces formidable performance, not to mention an exhaust note capable of terrifying owners of domestic muscle cars" and: "The exhaust note when the engine revolutions above 4,500 rpm will make your spine shiver". M's are dandy and so is your 3.0si. Congratulations and enjoy it!!

haha.. good one.. but.. No. I came from a 400 RWH Car to my Z4 and still get to drive round with and chat with friends that have 600+ RWHP cars, so..nope no ///M envy from me.
Personally I think the ///M is a GREAT car and yep.. I do plan on owning one some day in the future. Heck, I would purchase an M6 vert tomorrow if I had the dollars. But, I do not have envy of an ///M. I just get a little tired of the ///M or your car sucks kind of attitude that seeps into threads from time to time. I don't really believe people mean that when it's posted, but it comes off that way from time to time.

What I'd really like to see is the profiles of your coupe and that Datsun Z there in your picture side by side-- always felt there was a strong similarity.
