Tire dilemma. AD08 or PSS?
So I have hankook v12's on my currents 19x8.5/10 morr wheels in 235/35 and 275/30 sizes.
They are good tires but I really want something with better performance and a stiffer sidewall/better steering response. So I've narrowed it down to the Yokohama ad08 or Michelin pss. These are going to be street tires. I have also chosen to go down a size since both run wide and tall so a 225/35 and 265/30. What are your opinions, and would would you recommend anything else that fits my criteria? Thanks

I don't think the PSS tires run wide or tall vs. standard. I think the sizes you plan to use will be too short and throw your speedometer way off. I would go 235/40 and 265/35.

235/40/19 and 265/35/19 are going to rub everywhere. my current tires already hit the fenderliner up front when driving aggresivley and come about 1/8" to the liner standing still. going with an even larger tire wouldnt be smart. the pss also run wider in a 225/265 than the hankooks do in the 235/275 by 1/2"!! they are only small in diameter by 2mm

265/30/19 pss vs 265/30/19 hankook side by side. you can see how much farther the shoulder runs compared to the hankook
this is a 265/30/19 pss on 10". doesnt look so skinny and a 225/35/19 on 8.5" on a golf R

The sizes you had listed would be great for 19s. |

The problem here is most people don't have experience with AD08s. Check specs on them, in 265/35/18 the AD08s' tread width is .2" wider. Plus, they're a no compromise performance tire. I love my set
When I called Tire Rack, they said PSS will get greasy quickly when autocrossing compared to a real extreme performance tire

I made the same mistake. While the sizes proposed by the OP may fit better, the ride is going to be that much harsher than with the 18's.

I want a firmer ride. That's the main reason I'm changing my existing 19" tires. I find them too soft for the chassis/suspension. I've read nothing but good things about both tires, but the fact that pss are better suited for a street setup + the higher tread rating really has me pushing towards them

I've run Star Specs, NT05s, RS3s. And PSS. PSS: No better tire in wet, quiet, great grip. NOT best suited to track or AutoX, but for your intended use they'd be perfect IMO.

Also, many of those tires you listed don't come in proper 19" sizes. Most of them are better suited for a 18" wheel. The ad08 and nt05 are just a few that have larger fitments. I was also looking at nt05's, however I think they may be a bit overkill for what I intend on using these wheels for and they come factory-pre-worn. Not much tread on those to begin with lol

dubsesd, i have AD08's in stock 18" wheels and love them but for a tire with street and aggressive street use in mind you'd be better off with the Michelins I think.

In the rain or dry? Dry/warm it's a really good tire; much better for track/AutoX than PSS. But wet/cold the PSS is a much better tire. You can easily drive 10-15 MPH faster in the rain with the PSS and not suffer hydroplaning. Wife (PSS) and me (NT05) ran some comparisons in several deluges.

I have the v12s on my car for summer street use (19"), and the AD07s as my track tires (18" on stock rims).
I agree that the v12s give a nice ride but the responsiveness leaves something to be desired. The AD07s are AMAZING track tires. I had always used R Comps for the track (RA1s and Hankook z214s on my 3.0 z4), but when I got the M I decided to go the ultra high performance summer route. The Yokos give up almost nothing to the R comps but obviously have greatly improved wet weather and treadwear characteristics. The AD08s are, I assume, even better. The ride is a bit harsh compared to the v12s, as you'd expect, but it's nothing terrible. I can't speak for the Michelins but the Yoko is the best all around tire I have ever experienced. |

^ great review, thanks for the feedback everyone. ive decided to go with the pss simply because they meet my requirements better than the ad08, or at least to the extend that i could feel a benefit with one over the other. should have them mounted by wednsday, so a review ill follor. i went with the smaller size and righfully so. this is a picture of a 255 conti vs a 245 pss
