Thanks! Good to know what we're liable to get away with.
I've got a semi for the RE Section 1 and X-pipe to go with my RE cans.
If you can get a pass on that, I probably wouldn't have to put the stock Section 1 back in to go for smog.
I'll make sure I go where I can get a free retest, just in case.

Update: I'm due for smog, so I took my car in this morning (Euro headers, OEM cats + relocated o2) and failed the 15mph HC test (74 measured, 49 max allowed). Everything else passed, though. Does anybody know of any smog stations in CA doing the OBDII test only? Might have to resort to denatured alcohol...

How long did you run the car before the test? Did it sit before the test? Get that cat so hot, that you an smoke from it.

Also do a test first, rather than than try to see if you will pass. That way, you won't be a gross polluter next year.

Btw, no obdII test only. I have also been told that they are moving it to 2009 and earlier

You mean 2009 and later for OBDII only? Not trying to beat you to death with semantics or be a jerk. Just want to make sure I understand.

Car came straight from a backroad run to the shop and was never turned off before the test. I was expecting it to pass for sure.

In CA there is no such thing as just a test. All results are automatically uploaded to CADMV

I was told hey were going to start scanning he cars, but it had moved to 2009 and later. He also said that the state can't figure out what the hell it is doing. Smog shop friend.

Not true. I always pay for a pre-test, which is around $35. It is handy for when you are tuning race cars to pass smog.

California Standardized Testing and Reporting???
My car will never pass. Its reading comprehension and math skills are terrible.

All seriousness aside though, I think I go in about 4-6 weeks.
Need to pull my 2012 results and see how much HC margin I had.
Read up on the "Gross Polluter" concept and I don't want to get sent down that road for deleting my secondary cats.

Great to know and very useful. A few years ago I called CA DMV to see if a pre-test was allowed. They said no, "there is no off-line testing allowed." ********!

Actually, upon second thought what DMV told me could be interpreted as stating that "pre-testing is allowed but the results will be uploaded."

I've seen pre-test (non-uploaded) done before........it's definitely doable, but I'm not sure if it depends on the specific testing device that a given shop uses.

PASS !!

Just got my smog notice yesterday and I couldn't decide whether to go for it or chicken out and put the stock midpipe back in.
Checked results from 2 years ago with stock midpipe:

___________HC (ppm)
________MAX__AVE__MEAS
15 mph__55____4____3
25 mph__39____4____1

So I figured I had some margin and decided "what could possibly go wrong?".
With stock headers and RE midpipes:

___________HC (ppm)
________MAX__AVE__MEAS
15 mph__55____4____32
25 mph__39____4____17

And since no one else in my household can drive my car, I got a rare chance to hear what it sounds like from outside.
50' away from the car leaning against the wooden counter I could feel the counter shake as soon as he brought it off idle.
Sounds beyond awesome; but to me, drone is music.

Nice - that gives me a good bit of confidence with my DKF mid-pipes. last year with a completely stock exhaust, for HC I was at:

15mph Max: 54 avg: 4 Meas: 9
25mph Max: 37 avg: 4 Meas: 8

not quite as clean as yours, but not too bad...
