Remap/tune for CSL airbox-who to use?
Firstly, hi to everyone I've been lurking around these parts since getting my Z4MC about 2 years ago but this is my first post as i find myself needing a bit of advice.
I'm close to pulling the trigger on a csl airbox, most probably from evolve, but due to their software not allowing heel and toe i need to find a map from elsewhere that can. Unfortunately i don't live in the states so tuning experience for our cars is a little harder to come by, (or at least it seems that way) so i expect i will have to do it remotely. This isn't a problem but as i'm new to all this plugging in to cars and up/downloading etc good support and aftersales might be beneficial! So, who are the go-to guys for this? I have heard epic motorsports have a map to suit but i haven't had a reply from them yet. Any other people i should look at? Thanks in advance and if you've got any other suggestions/advice just fire away. |

Not sure when you sent message to Randy down at Epic. If it was any time in the past week, things may have been a bit backed up b/c of the holidays. Being the 2nd or 3rd person on the boards with the (Epic) tune/Evolve airbox, I am exceedingly happy with it, and once I had the tune, and e-mailed him back any questions, he typically got back to me within a day or so.
My guess is b/c it was Thanksgiving week here in the states. |

agreed with fullera, there is only one person to deal with and thats EPIC motorsports. Going alpha n tune really transformed the car. Have zero issues with either the air box or tune. The performance gains of going alpha n are truly awesome. it really wakes up the S54...could only imagine what a set of cams would do. I personally Gained 50whp with all my bolt ons over stock tune with Epics software... stock car vs. full catless exhaust, air box, alpha n tune. Needless to say this is my favorite mod i have done to the car and i have no regrets.

Thanks for the replies guys, good to get some feedback on epic too as its not a company I am that familiar with.
Fullera, although I've seen countless things online about thanksgiving it just hadn't clicked that it may be a cause for delays and holidays! I'll give them a couple of days to recover from the food and festivities and send them another mail if I havent already heard. Pokey, I've heard franks name mentioned on these boards a few times and from what I remember it was all positive. It's another to check out so thanks for that. Westersund, no idea on the technicalities of the issue but a few have reported that the throttle is disabled when the brake is applied. Evolve have confirmed this hence the need for something else. Shame, as a one stop solution is obviously more convenient. Sabbanick, I'm really excited at the prospect of getting this box and it seems that most really like the immediacy of the alpha-n tune. I'm a little wary of going this route if I'm honest as it doesn't seem such a complete way of measuring and accounting for climatic conditions but I've been assured many times now that it's safe....fingers crossed I guess! |

It boggles my mind they would settle for a sulution that doesn't allow you to heel and toe when it's very likely that most people who get the Alpha N will track the car. And how the brakes have anything to do with the ECU and how it's tuned is a riddle in it's self.

Evolves air box is no joke, expensive but you get what you pay for in terms of....
-ease of installment -fitment into engine bay -quality/design of air box -throttle response -weight savings -sound factor -eye candy factor -performance gains Its unfortunate that evolve could not complete the package with regards to an alpha-N tune for the Z4M's DME but there are several Z4M's out there running Epic Motorsport's Alpha N tune on Evolves air box. |

I run the Evolve tune and experience both the heel toe and cold start issue. I do not go to the track, so its not as much of an issue for me. The cold start issue lasts about 15 -30 seconds. Besides those two things the tune is awesome. The car runs flawlessly. I have emailed the evolve folks to try and work with them on the tune, but they have not taken me up on it.

The only thing I forgot to say is that Randy (Epic) requires the STOCK ecu tune to modify. By the time I purchased the Epic tune, I already had the ESS tune, then the Evolve tune flashed on the ECU.
I had to use my ESS home program device to re-upload the stock tune to the car, then download the stock tune to my computer, then e-mail it to Randy to tune. He could not tune over the Evolve tune I already had on my computer. It had to be completely stock. |

Blakkflame- good to hear there will be another blasting around northern italy. I just placed the order yesterday so i think i'll be fitting mine in the new year. Any reason you have decided to send the DME to germany? Reading your reply i was hoping you were going to say you had someone close to us that could do a custom tune. Seems hard to find reputable BMW specialists around here closest looks to be ROAL motorsport in Padova but thats quite a long way from turin. Surely there must be someone else?
Fullerra-mine is totally stock at the moment so hopefully there won't be any issue getting the tune and rewriting the new one. Ideally i'd like a custom tune as it just seems a more correct way to do it but if that's not viable for the moment then i'll run an 'off the shelf' tune until find an excuse to do otherwise. Interesting that you've been through 3 tunes, did you run them all with the airbox? Any standout differences? |

I found a man that made over 20 Zeta (also in Greece, 95 octaine fuel) and ALL are happy and enthusiast, so ..... why not ?? Stop the car around one week and ship the DME, it's more easy and simply that make much attempts from M3 tuner ..... or not ??

Sounds like a good choice in that case-best of luck with it and do let me know how you get on
I've had a look around the TTFS software on their site and it looks to be quite a nice way of doing things. I've no ecperience of other tuners software and i've not bothered to download any apps or other programs for data logging so i've no idea how it compares, but i can see myself enjoying the geekery of stats and numbers. Anyway, E-mails sent to EPIC and TTFS so we'll see what happens-it's going to feel like a long wait until this is all sorted. At least its winter! |

I wouldn't worry about that, most probably you'll be running out on emergency hair dressing appointments with a car full of hairbrushes and curlers. Save the heel n toe for more masculine cars is my advice.
