Z4MC at NJMP

Someone on this forum? I'm sorry for your loss. I wasn't at the track but my friend was and sent this photo.

That hurts. Hope everyone is alright. At least it looks mostly cosmetic.

If it were just cosmetic, it wouldn't be roped through the tires. Someones trying to figure out what he is going to tell the wife.

"A deer ran onto the track."

"There was oil in turn 2."

"I am now a better driver because of it."

"It's not that big of a deal. I was thinking about turning it into a full time track car anyways."

"Somethings wrong with the brakes. It wouldn't stop."

"No honey, the insurance won't pay for it!"

It could just be cosmetic but the front fenders could be rubbing on the tires. Or, its just the policy of the track.
Unless I can see the front, it really is no use to speculate but judging from the picture and what I can see of the bumper cover and headlight, the front end is ok and he took most of the force along and down the side.
The car was also rotating at the end of the incident. Notice the rubber on the rear end.

These cars are tougher than you think.

Looks stock so don't recognize the car from anyone here. I think Trackdaze was there this past weekend.

I bet you it was between turns 1-3. I'll be down there in August.

Yep, car was rotating, and it's pretty clear it came into contact with a tires (probably a tire wall I'd guess).

Ouch.

Like Ship said, might not be all that bad, at least based on what we can see. All of the Z4 panels bolt on and off. Fender, door, rear quarter, bumper, tail light, maybe hatch. A semi-DIY would really cut costs.

I hope it's back in fighting shape soon!

for the 1-2 time HPDE-er a year - safe to say that track insurance would cover something like this?

Most definitely, Lockton insurance is the one to go with since you can apply your CCA discount if you buy a 6 event package, although I think the package is only good for 1 year - if anything gives you a reason to track the car more.

With that said, I hate to talk bad about a club but I think this was with Trackdaze and I'll just say after running with them last year once I don't plan to run with them again. They were very "lax" with rules and who they let in for each run group.

Greg, if you can swing the high(er) cost with NASA you really should run with them. Great group of guys but unfortunately the northeast chapter is a bit pricier (because instructors are more subsidized by student fees as compared to say clubs like PCA or CCA). But PCA and CCA is just as good and they tend to be cheaper. I only say NASA is a good club b/c incidents are RARE and their in-classroom instruction is top notch. If you ever want to do an event at Summit, I think NASA Mid-Atlantic is the best club hands down.

This was from last Friday so it wasn't TrackDaze, it was Hooked on Driving. I don't think it really makes any difference though - I heard it was driver error, got off line in turn 1 then looped it into the tires on the inside of the corner.

Sounds also like there was mechanical damage and he wouldn't be driving it home.

D - Thanks for the suggestion here. It is good to know the driver probably fared better then the car. and good reminder for picking up insurance, especially for a track novice like me.

All good bud, not sure if you saw my other thread but I just bought a 6 event package and with my discount, came out to approx $170/event for the declared agreed value.

BTW. posting pictures of wrecked cars, with license plate showing is a no no. You should always ask the owner of the car if he minds if it is posted on a forum.

Yikes! Glad everyone was alright!

I was actually at NJMP this past weekend with TrackDaze and ended up having to sit the event out due to a ruptured power steering line. I consider myself lucky because I was spilling ATF all over the right side of the car thus making it very hard to get traction. At first I thought it was my new rear tires with <100 miles on them but, all of my experience on track -- nearly 60 days now -- told me something else was up. As soon as I started rolling around at low speeds I knew what had gone wrong.

Take away from both experiences... not a hobby for the faint of heart!

I've seen this driver error before on turn 1. The inexperienced driver goes off, panics and tries to get back onto the track as quickly as possible, then flies across the track and spins into the inside wall.
Not good, but hoping maybe I can pick the car up for another race car if he doesn't fix it.
