ECU removal
I am removing my ecu to send to ESS for reflashing. Do I have to unhook the battery before removing the ecu or is it safe to just have the key out of the ignition? ( don't wish to have to take the car to dealer to get settings done after the ecu is re-installed)
Thanks Wayne |

Disconnect the battery first before removing it. Reconnect it only after its back in the car and properly hooked up.
The ECU is still "awake" even after the key is out of the ignition for some time before it sleeps. It's 3 min to disconnect the battery, so no big deal either. |

I did not disconnect the battery to remove my ECU to send to AA. I specificially asked and they said it was not necessary. I had no issues.

disconnect the battery!!! just remove the negative and your good. Send the DME in a static free wrap, which can be had for free from a computer store.
