Question on Supersprint Exhaust install

Picked up these Supersprint Race exhaust mufflers from a forum member a week ago and just got a chance to install them today.

Initial observation is that these are louder than I had anticipated, but it sounds soooooo good It makes the Remus on my X5 sound tame and OE-ish. Need to get more times behind the wheel and getting used to the extra noise.

Anyway...my question about the tips. Are they supposed to stick out about an inch passed the bumper as pictured? They do extend another 1/2 an inch or so when hot. Other than the tips sticking out a bit, these looked almost OEM minus the "sacks".

Mine stick out close to that far when warm. Here is a pic when cold:

If you don't want the tips to protrude as much, you can adjust the bumper via the 4 screws holding the diffuser to the bumper (see crfine88's DIY).

Is there not some adjustment in the Xpipe adapters?

My setup is a bit closer than you guys! The edges of the bumpers are about 1/2" closer ( i could only see 1/2 of the horses when cold). Do you have the SS x-pipe? That would make more noise and grumbles as well.

Thanks for the tips (pun intended) guys I was able to knock in the x-pipe adapter another quarter inch and it is much better. When cold, I can't see the horses anymore on the passenger side (well..may be you can still see their hoofs ), but still see their legs on the driver's side. So weird how much of a difference a quarter inch makes (visually). The bottom of the bumper have already been pulled out as far as it will go, so I guessed it was designed to stick out 1/2 an inch or so

Pheonix...I'm sure that I would not want to go any louder. Just the race cans are pretty loud for me already. I already feel like somewhat of an a$$ driving through the (quiet) neighborhood with these mufflers.

Hi XMetal, you can adjust how much the tips come out working on the front-centre pipe of the stock exhaust, it can slide a bit as you already have done.
You can also pair them pushing in the exhaust that comes out more and then adjust a bit the exhaust longitudinally.
The racing mufflers are quite loud and have a bit of drone, so I usually suggest the road ones to people who wants the full system.

We had a day dedicated to BMWs on 10/2011 and we fitted a 4M with sports cats, centre-xpipe and rear racing mufflers (used).
It's a bit too much for the road but I think it really sounds good.
The car was also chipped and it made 364 hp at the crank (stock headers, 100 ron fuel)
I'm cutting the video right now, so you can hear the sound.

I went straight to the SS X-pipe/race cans so i can't comment on how much louder compare to just the cans. However, it is definitely more rumblings. So much that applied a layer of dynamat the entire trunk to reduce some noise and vibration.

Yes. These race mufflers are freaking loud. I'm loving the tone, burble and all, but they are too loud for my taste. I guessed it's because you're physically sitting over these cans. After putting in a few more hours over the weekend, I'm having 2nd (3rd, 4th, 5th...) thoughts on these and may pull them off. The red MC is drawing enough attention as is and I don't want more attention (I like to "fly" under the radar).

Wow, really? Supersprint setup is actually on the more quiet side of the aftermarket cans. Maybe you should go back to the stock setup and try to get an Afe or Gruppe M intake? They are less intrusive.

I wouldn't say SS is quiet. From our recent exhaust fest SS was the loudest there. SS are probably the second loudest cans after RPI.

That's the thing...everyone's opinion is different when it comes to exhaust. Some say the SS are quiet, while others say they're loud as heck. I happened to be in the latter group. Without any point of references, I took a gamble on these since I loved the bass and burbles. It would have been perfect if it was toned down a notch. I mean, people were literally turning their heads whenever I start off on red lights.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try for a trade for the Powerloops or even a Stromung/Remus.

I have a guy interested in used race mufflers for the Z4M but he's in Italy and the shipping would be too expensive.

The powerloop silencers have been designed to not be too loud even with the full system so they will probably match your needs.
