AFE intake for Z4M's? Opinions?

Anyone have one?

Thoughts? did it make any power?

Seems to be a fairly decent design coming with its box to block out hot air,
and combined with a RPI scoop might be a decent intake

I'm sure it sounds cool too

I don't have an aftermarket intake and wouldn't waste my money on one. Not that I haven't wasted lots of money over the years on aftermarket stuff for my Bimmers. I have the RPI scoop and it is totally useless at speeds under 70 or 80 MPH.
If you're looking for bling buy an intake; if you're after more horsepower ask yourself why you need more power out of the tightly wound S54 engine.

I figured it would pretty much be best to leave it as is,
I also have the RPI scoop and felt no difference, I have the ESS tune and was looking at a way to compliment it via intake, Was thinking of a BMC replacement panel filter,
But one fo these AFE intakes popped up very cheap and just getting some opinions on it,

I looked at the ESS engine management software and just can't justify the cost versus benefits. My Z4MC sees a lot of track time so handling is more important to me than more horsepower. This winter a TC Kline DA coil-over suspension system is going on the steed in an effort to straighten out those turns

If your car spends alot of time on the track like mine then the ESS software will be a good buy... the bump in low end power and torque makes the car much more effective coming out of corners

+1, Jim the software is really good,
The car in much more alive and as already mentioned I can see coming out of a corner as a huge benefit

I am just glad I finally bit the bullet and got the software, Yes its expensive when you compare it to other BMW models software, But given the low production numbers of the Z4M I can see why its costly,

The software and the 4.10 gears I have are two mods I would do over again,
The car is just so much more fun with these mods.

I'd leave the RPI scoop out, But I got that for an awesome price so thats why its there,

I just got the aFe ProDryS stock filter insert for the stock airbox, and put it below the charcoal filter.
I also bought the aFe CAI kit from **********s (good price!) with ProDryS.
I will install later this year, after I get a feel for the stock box filter "upgrade"...

I have the GruppeM intake and RPI scoop and I honestly do not feel much of performance increase. There's a little better throttle response and a little more pull at speed. There may be a larger improvement when matched with the ESS tune which I do not have yet.

The main difference is sound. And the difference is like night and day! It honestly sounds so good that I would never want to go back. It just makes the engine sound like what you would expect it to sound like, beefy and powerful! I think it's well worth something around $500, not more than $800, which is why I got my GruppeM used.

Id love my M to sound like this

With the GruppeM (or anyone with the AFE intake) is it at least close to this?

Although I have never heard a GruppeM in person my AFE sounds pretty much like the CSL intake sounds on an M3. I love the sound so much that even if it didn't make any extra power I would still buy it again.

Here's pics of the GruppeM:

I think the sound from the aFe should be similar to the GruppeM but not exactly the same. If anyone lives in the DC area that has an aFe, let me know.

That does look good,
Did you watch that vid I posted above? Does it sound like that from inside the car?

I also opted for the Dry AFE filter rather then the oiled, (how the kit came),
I heard the oiled filters can set off a CEL,

You might want to read this SIB before modifying the intake system on your S54 powered Bimmer:

I have watched that video before and from what I can discern that car has no intake other then the stock airbox. Then agian though I can't read the discription on the video. The AFE is def louder then that video though... if you want you can feel free to come by and check it out in person.
