I'd say it works well, and that my complaints are more about me being picky than anything. I want the s54 to make m54 noises, but that just won't happen. I've been watching videos of guys with intakes and headers, they don't seem the have the sound I'm looking for either the two engines are very different afterall, maybe I shouldn't expect them to sound the same

I drove in to work this morning and it was pretty cool the cabin vibrates with some of the really deep noises

Since you're in the bay area I'd love to hear this setup in person. You can also hear my S54 with the GruppeM so we can both compare. Where are you located exactly?

I'm in Santa Clara, you're in SF? I'd be down to meet you in Burlingame sometime, partly because there's a really good sandwich shop there

Burlingame is definitely doable, lots of good places to eat there. I'll PM you.

Sorry forgot to update this, but I did meet with the OP the other weekend and checked out his mod. Definitely sounds more aggressive than stock, but not as loud as my car was when I had the AFE and not as loud as now that I have the GruppeM.

Perfect mod for people that want a slightly more aggressive sound but don't want the rest of the world to hear (or if you're unlucky like us and have sound limitations at your local track), but not loud enough if you're looking for an aggressive sound.

Overall, great mod and ingenuity by the OP!

Since this thread is about sound. I don't mind thread jacking and asking you to compare the GruppeM vs AFE.

Great ingenuity OP.

OP, do you have any sound clips of this against OEM?

Long overdue sound clip I was poking around the hood today and decided to take out the second piece of foam; this thing is making a bit more noise now. This is the best I could do with an iPhone, it's much louder in person but you can sort of hear the throaty induction noise around 5 or 6 seconds in

This was from a stop, maybe around 80% throttle up to 5.5-6k rpm. Certainly wasn't giving it all the beans, boo traffic

Almost a year with this setup and still no leaks!

For reference this is my 3.0i M54 with an aFe intake and both pieces of sound generator foam removed and me putting a little extra effort into making noise. I have no idea what that ringing noise is at 1:06, it started that after I installed the intake.

Love it at 1:04, epic m54 howl all the way to redline! I remember feeling like the windshield was vibrating when I had both foams out on my 3.0, and that was with the OE airbox

Been doing some more driving with the M, I need to get a better vid to do it justice, it had me grinning like an idiot on the way to work this morning

Well, I wanted to do this mod, but since I have a CSL box, there is not an easy way to attach the generator itself, however, below is what I did to let into the cabin a bit more noise, I would say that from a 0-100 scale, this gives 7-8 notches...

Is the change you made the s-shaped pipe just to the right of the struct bar (from a line of sight perspective)?

With the CSL intake, I'm surprised you have any trouble hearing the intake?

Yes, the M doesn’t have the pipe at all, just a plug, so I added the grommet and the S pipe

I did not have trouble hearing it, just wanted as much as possibly

That's awesome - I might give it a try.

Do you have the part number for the pipe? Sorry if it's listed somewhere on the previous pages!

I looked it up on RealOEM and the pipe is 13717560282 and the grommet to go with it is 13717514865. I need to order some other bits and pieces, so I think I will give this a try as well.
