I found it took a little finagling to get it to line up. I attached mine with sheet metal screws into the bumper cover. I pre-drilled holes in the lip and then match drilled a pilot into the bumper cover while pushing or pulling to the location I wanted. The only place I had a bit of a problem was right at the inner portion of the "fang". There wasn't quite enough material to get it exactly right and still install the existing fastener so it did sit an eighth of an inch or so recessed at those points. But it still looked fin.

That is until some idiot (me) smacked a curb this weekend. It's off now deciding whether I can repair it or not.

Doesn't fit like the pics, if I make the sides/corners of the filler piece between the fangs even with the bumper the middle protrudes a lot. It's more curved than the bumper is. If I make the middle part even, the corners of the filler piece between the fangs are tucked in.

Anyone else have this issue or did I just get unlucky?
Hmm, this is making me having 2nd thoughts now.

I'll investigate and see what's the matter. I test fitted the first form/mould on 3 separate Z4 M(s) and fitment was good. I did noticed not all 3 bumpers were 100% alike; fitment varied slightly between the cars using the same form.

Is there a balanced medium between those two senarios you mentioned?

I had the same issue with mine. The ends of the lip dont line up quite right. The curve of the lip, also does not quite match the curve of my bumper. To use the factory bolts in the outside portion under the bumper cover, I was forced to "persuade" the lip a little bit. Even with all this, in the end, it looks pretty good, as long as you dont run from side to side to see that the end points dont match up right.

I'll see if I can get some kind of double sided sticky tape before the end of the week and snap some pics so you can see exactly what I see.

If it were close enough to slightly persuade the piece into place I'd be ok with it but it'd be way too much stress on the piece and my bumper IMO with the amount of difference there is.

Anyway I'll snap some pics asap to give a better understanding.

Thanks for the response..

It'll be at least another month. I can only build them after work in my spare time and on some weekends. I definitely appreciate everyone's patience.

Steve, did you make your mold with Polyester resins ?

If so....and if there wasn't an added support frame bridge built on the mold backside, its possible your mold is heat cycling and warping as you make parts.

Either that, or you need to add less MEKP % to let the parts fully cure in the mold before de-molding.

Best bet is to post cure the part while still in the mold with heat lamps overnight. THEN de-mold .

Cheers,Vinny

Hi Vinny,

Sounds like you've worked with composites before. Two of the moulds were made using polyester resin and 10+ layers of fiberglass cloth. It's very strong and fully cured so I hope it's not distorting. I'll check them against the original plug.

I've switched to epoxy resin since so there's no need for MKEP catalyst or any issues related to it.

I give it a few days for the parts to cure before removing it from the moulds. I'll see if it needs to set in the mould for longer.

Thanks for the tips

Steve

I haven't been able to find a shipping company that can ship the lip at a reasonable cost. Shipping through UPS or Fedex to the UK cost more than the lip itself.

Let me know if there's a shipping company with reasonable rates if you know of one.

Thanks.

25+ years with composites and still refining the craft.

You mentioned cure time on the mold. Most of us give up to 2-3 weeks for post cure WITH the assistance of heat....whether the solar heat or heat-lamps or heat blankets.

Even Epoxy manufacturers will require it if you ask them. Its a necessary evil in the craft.

Almost every mold will move if its receiving its cure cycles by molding parts instead of a post heat cure with the plug still in place.

You might be able to save the mold by re-inserting your plug or parent part and then adding glassed in beam supports to the mold backside and then placing it all out in the sun for a week or so.

Let me know if you need more help on the subject.

Cheers,Vinny

Can someone please confirm exactly how much this lowers the chin? (i.e. distance to ground) I'm on H&R springs and don't want to rip this thing off on the first pothole / speed bump I come across. Thanks!

I dont have the measurment for you, but I also have H&R springs with this lip. I've had it on for about a month and I have very lightly scraped 2-3 times on steep driveways. For the most part I have not had any issues, you just have to be careful!
