Alarm Issues
I have recently purchased a 2004 Bmw Z-4 2.5 L and when locking the car with the remote, the doors lock but I cant get the light to flash or the horn to chirp to confirm that it is locked. Also when it is locked the light at the bottom of the review mirror for the alarm doesn't flash to show that the alarm is activated. So It seems that the alarm isn't working. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

It sounds like you don't have an alarm. The alarm is usually an option on many BMWs. Just because you it's mentioned in the Owner's Manual (with an asterisk, denoting an option) and you have the clown nose is under the mirror doesn't mean that the alarm was actually installed. Have you run your VIN on one of the VIN decoding sites to see what packages and options your car was built with?

As far as it looks ,It seems that the alarm is standard equipment. Any idea about the horn chirp and flashing lights when locking with the remote.
Thanks |

Not standard equipment, those of us with the alarm have invariably installed it. At least in the US.
Regardless, you can check to see if you it installed by looking for the hood switch which is on the firewall, or by looking for the module which would be in the wheel well. Here's a thread that will help. |

I think OP needs to figure out if he has an alarm first.

The alarm doesn't chirp. There was a similar thread about this awhile ago and the consensus was that it doesn't do it because while it does advertise that the alarm is on, it also advertises that you are away from your vehicle.
As for the light on the mirror, give it a few minutes to see if it starts blinking. I think there is supposed to be a delay.

You really need to learn how to search. I bought my Z4 M Roadster last July and I found lots of information on the alarm including the BMW installation instructions. Search on ZPost, Bimmerfest, and use Google. The information is not hard to find.

Assuming you do the install, which will save about an hour in labor costs, you'll still need the dealer to code the alarm for it to actually work (about 100 dollars) unless you have access to a cable and programming kit (no, these are not easy to use). There are various options that can be coded at the same time, so have your list ready so that you make the most out of the spend. |
