since this is a non-topic thread.....what do you guys have to say about the fact that my dealer told me that there is no recommendation in the bmw manual on tire rotation?

I know you can't rotate with staggered, and are limited in rotation in directional, but I was told not to rotate tires by the dealership.

I need new tires again.....anyone know of someone on the forum wanting to sell any? I'll even take run flats if they are cheap enough.

Rosie,
Is your setup staggered? If not, you can rotate front and back.

Depending on the direction of the tread and whether or not there is an outside and inside sides on the tires, you can have them remounted on the opposite rim to stave off the camber wear.

what tire size are you looking for? check out e90post, i've seen few runflats for sale there. if not, the ususal recommendations of a cheap tire are sumitomo htr z iii, general exclaim uhp, and yoko s.drives

Rosie, I love my General UHP tires and they are super cheap. I believe I got my 4 staggered tired shipped from TireRack (banner up top) for right about $600.

Good tire and they have a bit of tread left after 15K miles (so far).

Don't get me wrong, I love China, and I'm Chinese!! *looks around*...

I'm just not too fond of their inferior products that they produce. Minus the manufacturers that are major brands that have head offices stationed in other countries of further economic development.

Some things they have are great, others... not so...

And btw... that's Japan you got there! I've been there too! Weird stuff... :P

thanks for the tire advice, i was looking for rotation advice. Since I love the F1's except for the short life they seem to have, I'm sticking with goodyear. The F1 summers are being discontinued so I'm getting the all season cause they are less expensive and last longer. I'm told they handle the same but are a bit noisier. I'll deal with the noise better than having to fork out $1000 for tires every year and a half.

haha, I guess it was japan... hmm. I was thinking I heard a friend say they saw them after a trip they took to China. Oh well. It all looks greek to me.

I wanted to make sure my friend wasn't full of it so I Snopes'd it and they had quite an interesting article about the whole culture thing and why they sell that kind of stuff... really interesting.

I've never rotated tires on any of my BMW's. I believe their philosphy is that the fronts wear from steering and the rears wear from powering the car. Never had issues with uneven wear, except of course, when the RFT's get sidewall bubbles and have to be replaced, but that's another story.

...and I would reply that I am a normal guy, but I'm not, so I won't.

Did you read the entire thread to catch up and post?

You can do side to side "rotating" of the tires. Some tires with assymmetrical tread make this easy, other tires may be directional only and require you to swap the rims to switch the inside and outside sides of the tire.

It all depends. It can be done in some cases.
