Just bought found a few issues, help me figure it out please

Just bought it. Love it

Ac light when I push the snow flake doesn’t work, no cold AC.

no rear defrost button light coming on either when pushed.

Does this have anything to do with the blower motor recall, because my fan only runs on one speed.

Garage List
I think it is a more of "check the easiest/cheapest possible solution first" type answer

I cannot remember what the results of Transport mode are, but I do remember not being able to use most of the HVAC controls. Might be another possible issue.

Fuses are all good. I pulled each one and tested it. So now Im checking the volts on my battery. Its a BMW battery. The car starts and runs and happiness except for a few miner issues then it might be transportation mode. But maybe the battery is going bad.

Battery is not dead, tests normal.

Called dealer, if it is in transport mode it would cost $68.50 to take it out of transport mode. If not they would hook it up to the diagnostic machine for $150 and figure it out.

Sounds like transport mode - more info here:

Didn't you buy the car from some sort of dealer? Will they pay for this?

I bought it from a dealer in Georgia. I’m in Illinois. Would need to have the work done at the dealer in Georgia and I’m not driving 10 hours.

If this turns out to be a transport mode issue, then the selling BMW dealer in Georgia absolutely should have made sure to check for that and address it before selling the car to you. To be frank, it’s unbelievably sloppy. So they should be very apologetic and very willing to pay for the work to fix this at your local Illinois BMW dealer. A point in your favor is that the cost to the dealer for this is relatively low as far as BMW work goes.

I hope you get this fixed quickly so you can fully enjoy your fine new machine.

Dang. In that case, the selling dealer can be forgiven as they may not have recognized transport mode. Just the same, they may be willing to help you as a gesture of good will. Why not give them a call to see if they will pay for the charge to deactivate transport mode? Even if the answer is no, $68 plus tax is a very cheap fix for you.

Good luck!

Another guess on transport mode being the issue - mine did similar tricks before PO put new AGM battery and had dealer reset.

I would think $68.50 - $150 might be well spent. At least then you can figure out what is up...
Cheaper than a drive to Georgia

I bought my Z4 a month ago. The items you listed are identical to the issues not working in my car. Also, early on I had measured battery voltage when I first brought the car home and it was extremely low, I was surprised it cranked and started. I fully charged the battery, however the A/C, rear defroster and fan speed were non-working.

From reading about these issues on the internet I was convinced the car was in transport mode so I visited the local BMW dealer. Their testing confirmed the car needed to be reset to take it out of transport mode. The fan, rear window defroster and A/C work fine now.

The low battery voltage was the root problem and had put my car into transport mode.

Question for those who know:

Is transport something that will enable whenever a low battery situation happens?
or
Is it something that should have been disabled when the car arrived at the dealership and at that point forward it should never reenter transport mode.

As an engineer, and recognizing that a battery can go low for any number of reasons during a vehicle's life, I'd say it should be the latter, but we need to confirm. After all, these are the same guys who brought us the brilliantly-designed "hydraulic roof motor in the flood-prone roof drain" system. I mean, even a first year mechanical undergrad should have seen that one coming a mile away. But hey - it could be worse; thankfully there's no evidence that BMW hired the Porsche engineering brainstorms who came up with the legendary intermediate shaft.

Thanks for all of the responses guys and gals.

If I truly am in transport mode , by the way I don't have fan control either, no blowing hard at all, same speed when I turn it on high or low.

So I have a BMW battery. I'm gonna go to autozone and have the battery tested.

Will it hurt anything to take the battery out now and get it tested or install a new battery.

The current battery seems just fine?

Where would I buy a new battery. I'm sure a new BMW battery is like $400

Robert - not 'sport' mode. TRANSPORT mode.

It's intended to save the battery from completely draining if it detects a slow drop in voltage over a prolonged period of time. Changing the battery will NOT turn off transport mode.

From googling BMW transport mode, it seems like you either need to take it to a dealer/indy shop, or use some specialized software/cable to access the system. I'm sure someone here can give you more info on the software/cable needed.

Make sure to DISABLE transport mode, and not just clear it or turn it off.

My understanding is that Transport Mode was just intended to protect the battery when the car originally left the factory and that the receiving dealer was supposed to 'disable' transport mode. It seems that there is also a setting for "off" which only clears the mode if it's been tripped - but would allow it to be tripped again if a battery drain was detected.
