When people say I'm crazy for driving the car with the roof down around or below the freezing point, I basically say that due to the heater and heated seats, it is a lot more comfortable than walking outside in that sort of temperature as long as speeds are below 80km/h.
I only wish we had heated steering wheels then I reckon we could go even lower. Drove to work in 4.5C this morning. It was glorious.
Glad to see others here drive with the top down when it is cold. For awhile, I thought I was being a bit nutty. My wife thinks I'm nuts for driving top down when it's cold out in the fall.

Does having a wind screen make it more bearable to drive out in the cold?

I actually prefer driving in the cold weather rather than the hot weather.

The car runs so much better too.

I use one of these: http://www.ems.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3652845

My wife tells me I look like some axe murderer driving down the road.

The wind screen only has an effect over about 80km/h (50mph), but the best thing is setting the air distribution in a specific way. Maximum fan and 50% to the footwell / 50% to the mid vents (left dial set to the 6 o'clock position), with the vents either side of the steering wheel pointing to your hands. Close the mid vents on the passenger side if you don't have a passenger.

This would create sort of an air seal up to my waist and the heat would warm my legs. Nutty idea?
Just "Nutty" enough to work, I like it wish someone would come up with an aftermarket tonneau for the Z4?

I drove my car several times through the Golden Gate at 2 am with the Top down. So cool to pass under the pillars . The girl next to me had a huge smile on her face!
