Smg Vs Manual

Is there a big performance difference between the two, both Smg and Manual?
As well when did they stop making SMG?

Correct me if i am wrong but i think they only made smg z4 for 03 and 04 and stopped at 05 but again i could be wrong.
I think SMG shift at .8 of a second which is faster than most of us can do so zero to sixty time will be shortened by .1 second

The SMG on the Z4 shifts fairly quickly, but not really "that" quickly like the SMG2. Without the CDV, I can probably easily equal its up-shifting time (except the 1-2 shift, but that's more of a fault of the car than mine). I wouldn't be able to do this every time, more like 7 out of 10 times. I don't think the Z4's SMG takes 0.8 seconds to up-shift. More like 0.3 seconds. 0.3 seconds isn't that short of time - you can catch a basketball and shoot it in 0.3 seconds.

Down-shifting is another story. I couldn't (and will never be able to) rev-match down-shift as precisely and consistently as the SMG does. And that's really the whole advantage of the SMG. It offers consistency & precision that cannot be matched by any human being. I doubt Hans Stuck would be able to shift perfectly 10,000 out of 10,000 times, or 10 million out of 10 million times.

It doesn't take 0.8 secs to downshift either.

Depends on what mode also. In normal mode.. it's shifts what I consider too slowly.. almost a full second. In sport mode, it amazing fast... about 2 tenths of a second. You have to experience it to feel what .2 of a second is.
