Vanos code 2A82 - how soon does it need doing?
My car threw a code last week, 2A82 Vanos intake. From what I've read it means cleaning and/or replacing the VANOS solenoids, which does not appear to be too hard. What I'm wondering is how soon I should plan on doing it.
I cleared the code and drove the car ~50 miles at various engine speeds and loads, and the code did not reappear. Can I let it ride for a while and do it at my leisure? Or is it a "drop everything and get it done NOW" kind of thing? The car is pleasure driven only, maybe once a week it will see activity. |

You may have some performance degradation, but I'm pretty sure it's unlikely to cause any damage.
Cam timing might be a little off, but I don't thing the Vanos has the capability to crash the valves.
