So I put a deposit down today on this car:

http://arizonaautogroup.com/web/3095...06-BMW-M-Coupe

They agreed to $26,000 out the door, which includes shipping to Atlanta.

Does this look like a good deal?

Thanks

The only thing I don't understand is the first record on Carfax of the car being sold is at 6,200 miles. It says it was a manufacturer vehicle sold at auction. Any ideas?

Also, does this mean the car is still under the standard 48 month warranty period?

Thanks

Get the VIN and check it with your local Bimmer dealership. They should be able to tell you if it still has warranty coverage.

The sold at auction sounds a little funny to me. I'd say it's a great price WITHOUT any accidents. You should get a PPI to confirm if that's important to you.

Manufacturer Car: Could've been a pampered promo car, executive car, BMW Golf Tournament car, or it could've been an abused test vehicle....journalist car, BMW Ultimate Drive car. I don't think there is a way to tell for sure. Looks good in pictures though!

make sure the sales tax is included. if its not, you will have to fork out about 1800 for tax when you register the car.

Also ask questions about how it will be shipped. There are some shady shipping methods. I used a broker because I wanted someone who knows the business. Since the seller is including the shipping you will not have much say. If you can, you might consider flying in and driving it back. I could not because I work too much.

I just drove this car out in AZ yesterday (same VIN confirmed) at a different dealer. Did your deal fall through? Any other details you mind sharing about your deal/the car?

If the VIN is 5UMDU934X6LL93341 then it was this one and you should run not walk away from it.

I didn't pursue this car after finding out the history. Just about every body panel was replaced after it was a driving school vehicle. Who is selling it now?

Yikes! I'm no expert on Z4MCs (though I am in the market for one...) and the whole driving school thing would explain why it sounded a bit rough when I took it out yesterday.

It's currently for sale by Front Line Auto in Gilbert for $28,990 ($1k lower on their eBay listing and in person), here's the listing: http://www.frontlineaz.com/inventory/view/4930494

Interestingly when I asked the guy at Front Line about wanting to have an inspection done he strongly urged me to take it to his buddy at a nearby shop and gave me a list of places I wouldn't be allowed to take it. That alone was a red flag, especially after the rough test drive.

Felt pretty rough under somewhat hard acceleration, clutch was a beast (beyond the usual CDV issue, I literally worked up a sweat just driving it around on open roads), and a rather disconcerting rattle/knocking came from under the hood the whole drive. Not to mention there was a rattle from the trunk area, but there was nothing loose in the trunk.

I'm no expert on Z4MCs but I could tell that something was off, as could my passenger.

engine mount bolts could be the issue you were hearing under the hood. i had the issue and noticed some vibration under load as well. simple fix.

Running rough doesn't sound right but the other issues you mentioned really don't sound like a big deal at all. You made it out to sound like the car was a piece of crap when in all likelihood it just needs a little bit of TLC. How's your Saab treating you?

Ah gotcha. Like I said, I'm no expert on maintaining Z4MCs, but the car didn't feel right or like the others I had driven. In all likelihood someone with much more experience could buy that car at a good price and turn it around themselves and have a winner.

And my Saab on the way home was smoooooth as silk as always. The company might be bankrupt and you may not be able to get parts and no one knows who's going to honor my warranty but it's still the best car I've ever owned!
