Vented hood for supercharged Z4M?

I have the non-intercooled ESS supercharger kit. I have been noticing a slight idle hunting (oscillation) on warm days. As soon as I open the hood the idle stabilizes, or at least it appears to behave that way. This leads me to think under hood temperature plays a role. I think I could benefit from venting some heat from the engine bay. Or maybe I'm completely wrong on this theory. I'd like to hear your opinion. The car drives completely fine otherwise.

Sounds like you need to upgrade to the intercooled version! Or upgrade your oil cooler. Or both!

I doubt a vented hood would do much but you could play around with adding the RPi air scoop and eliminating your side markers for some air flow.

My ESS kit idles at varying rpm, but it's always stable. Can you describe the hunting idle in more detail?

The intercooled version won't help you, as it's air-to-air and only works when you have airflow passing over it.

The idle isn't bad. In warm days the idle RPM sometimes varies about 100-150 rpm. The needle doesn't want to settle. It just goes up and down a bit. The oil temp has always been normal though, even at the track. The under hood temp is very hight though in warm days after a drive. I'm not sure what's causing the idle hunt, but opening the hood seems to help the RPM to settle.

I've had the kit for about 2 years, 10K miles. It's been very reliable apart from the idle hunt. It looks like ESS revised the manifold. I have the old version...

yeah they made it slightly smaller, I'm happy with the larger version actually tbh, my logic tells me it holds a higher volume so that can't be a bad thing, not that it matters on FI.

my idle is perfect BTW, never been an issue, infact it idles better than it ever did stock.

here a video from a while back. Jump to 1.55. This video was taken while the car was stone cold, and it still idles like this to this very day. Why not ask ESS to update your tune ? or possible ICV issue maybe?
