Does this sound normal?

23K miles on this Z4M. The S54 is a noisy engine, neither the dealer nor the indie shop have expressed concern. Still, does this sound normal to you guys? The only thing I'm worried about is the slight ticking sound. Maybe I'm just paranoid? Goes up and down with RPMs.

I've also wondered the same thing but mine sounds exactly like this. I think that it's just the nature of the S54 (I hope).

I've always considered that to be the sound of a solid lifter engine.

There are 2 other sounds that I thought were ab normal which apparently also normal.... I'll try to make a video of this.
  • When turning the car off in neutral I get what sound like a clunk out of the flywheel area, however, if you press the clutch in when turning off you don't hear it.
  • When turning the ignition off after a couple seconds I get what sounds like a spark or arc sound under the hood.

These are also normal.
The clunk/shudder is the dual-mass flywheel.
The click is some relay, or at least that's been my theory.
It does sound like an arc, and it's fairy loud.

BMW's recommended 10W-60 changed by the dealer less than 1K miles ago.

Driving cars with hydraulic lifters for so long and hearing stories of vanos rattle has programmed my senses to think any and all rattles are Abnormal.
