possable n52 turbo pakage on the way.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=405478

looks like its being developed for the E-90 3 series group but was told that it will fit our N-52 based Z4's as well.

their planning the update soon it will be fun to see what comes of this.

could be a nice bolt on performance finally.

It's a Vortech supercharger kit. I'm glad someone is finally making some FI options for the N52, but there are a lot of drawbacks. First, the N52's crank is cast and not forged, so to run higher boost levels you will need to tear into the engine internals (beyond the abilities of the average weekend mechanic, so add in professional install and the cost of the new crankshaft). The block is a concern because it's magnesium/aluminum, and the kit will require water/meth injection. The tank will take up trunk space, and it's yet another fluid level to worry about and refill. I don't remember what the ZF and GM transmission specs are, but I do know one is limited to 290 lb-ft of torque and the other is ~320 lb-ft according to the thread. They cited these links:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_6L50_transmission

http://www.motor-talk.de/forum/aktio...hmentId=681806

Stage 1 will run about 3 psi, which is not enough boost to run with a Z4M. Stage 2 is going to be greater (they say ~6 psi).

Would I buy this kit if I had an N52 Z4? Probably. But it's not a kit for everyone, and it won't "murder" any M car. Props to the developer for taking the time to R&D it, and I hope he gets a good return on the investment.

Interesting. But probably going to be ~$5k. One could probably just trade up to a ///M, depending on the year of their Z. There's a M roadster on sale for ~22k on this forum. Either way, it'll be nice to see some turboed E85/86.

I would not want to add FI to my N52 for all the reasons mentioned above.

I for one would be happy with the possible gain that adding the 3 stage manifold and ecu tune gives on the standard N52 "I", I will know more in spring, however an SI owner may really want to up the anti with this kit,

now if this takes off I imagine spin offs will happen and they will come out with possibly a kit that does not require meth/H2O and this may show that the car will perform just fine with 6 psi heck we don’t even know numbers yet.

just for note, they have found that the SMART car can take over 15 pounds of boost without issue and that on stock internals and that deff does not have forged internals.

but I’m wondering what are the big differences between the n52 and the n54? Are they also magnesium/aluminum or just a different head with forged components? either way it’s nice to see something new happen for the n52's as we have been left out in the cold.

if things progress and this shows good response with the n52's in the 3 series realm then by goodness their will hopefully be a new market for n52 based cars.

just being hopeful!

^more spinning weight in the 3.0 than whatever small size engine a smart has. I know the Lancer Evo VIII was an iron block, but i also know that they switched from the iron block with the X i think. point is who knows how the engines gonna hold up until someone does it?
