Talking Looking at adding a coupe to the garage

Hello Z4 coupe owners. I'm looking at purchasing a Z4 coupe or M coupe and would appreciate some feedback. Currently I have an E90 and wanted to get something for the summer and always liked the Z4 coupe. I have started my search and think I should reach out to make sure I find the right coupe for me. I recently test drove a Z4si Coupe and really liked the cockpit feel of the car and almost purchased it but the allure of owning a M car stopped me from pulling the trigger.

Is there a big difference between the 3si and M, and what are the differences other then HP, front bumper, exhaust, steering wheel and all the M emblems. This might be a stupid question be is it worth getting the M over the 3si

Finding Canadian Z coupes is limited so I have been looking in the USA. I've started to read about the import process and was wondering if the M coupe was made in the USA, which if it was would save me the duties I believe. Has anyone imported a Z coupe from the USA that can share their experience.

In looking at a Z coupe what are the things to be on the look out for?

Thanks for all and any feed back.

the difference is the motor. its an m3 motor opposed to a 3.0l non m motor. higher reving, more power, award winning motor. the exterior differs in the following
-hood
-front bumper
-rear bumper
-headlights (model depending)
-brake cooling ducts
-entire drivetrain/suspension/exhaust
-LSD differential
-wheels/tires
-6 speed manual

interior offeres nicer gauges, steering wheel, nappa sport seats, carbon trim.....

There are lots of good threads on the SI vs the M.

But I'll give you my cdn 2 cents.

I had a 2007 Z4 Coupe 3.0SI which I owned for 4 years. I drove 2 M coupes and 2 Si's before buying the SI.

The SI fit my driving style. I don't drive my cars all that hard, don't push them to the limit all the time. I will let them loose here and there but it's like 75% rather than 100%. At 75% the SI was for me just as good as the M, if not better (I find the SI engine is a real gem, feels actually smoother than the M engine). The SI makes just as much torque in the lower rpm ranges as the M. The handling is not at the level of the M, but it's no slouch with the sport package. Overall I loved the SI.

But I will tell you this, 3 years into SI ownership I did find myself thinking about getting an M, part of me wanted to know what all the M owners were talking about. Plus there's not doubt it looks better.

Thanks for the responses. Has anyone here imported a M coupe from the USA. Where the M coupes made in the USA and would that be exempt from duties?

Yes I imported mine.
The y were US assembled same as the roadster.
Importing was a piece of cake.
I even had the halos pass as DRLs.

Its a US car but I got it in Canada. Rear spoiler is an AC Snitzer, cant decide if I'm going to keep it on or not.It looks much better in person then on the pictures. I'll take some more pics when it gets warmer. Have a bunch of mods to put on it but most looking forward to the ss exhsust I have for it.

You should try to come out in 2014. There is a thread about it in the Canadian section as well, with pictures. Its a good event and last year we had quite a few Z4's out.

Old thread, but one of the big differences between the SI and the M: completely different steering rack + electric assist in SI vs. hydralic in the M. Feels WAY different.

Also CSL brakes...

S54 has forged internals, vs. cast in the N54.

Not sure if any of it necessarily makes a difference 85% of the time... But once in a while, I really appreciate the extra $$$ spent on the M, myself.

Congrats on the car. It's georgeous.
