Need advice fast...
In PA checking out Z4MR. Has some clunking and rubbing noise from mid rear at times.
Clunking sounds like tranny...happens under accel then clutch in. Sounds like linkages or something. Rubbing is in wheels at low speed and tight corners. BMW tech says both are normal and common. Says rubbing is from limited slip diff (which makes sense). Says all M trannys clunk like this. Car is otherwise in great shape. What do the experts here think? If it is what the tech says, and concerns? Thanks |

Hey Mike
With the dual mas flywheel it's common to have chattering as you clutch in. The dif also sounds normal if it's on tight cornering as you describe. Chances are the diff has the normal spec fluid. BMW also has a fluid with a friction modifier that lessens this sound. ....there are several threads on both topics.

I think it's a fair price for a good condition sepang roadster. Don't know about the rubbing sound, but the clunking when clutching in is completely normal.

It only has 28,000miles. Mint with nav, light sepang interior, etc. it's a good price...been looking for a while. Plus, I sold my '08 3.0i for 28k so only a $500 difference.

Just way to much regardless. When I left Oregon, then California and across the country they were $22,000-$27,000 for the Roadsters and $25,900-$38,800 for the Coupes. Mileage ranged from 18,000- 75k.

Is there a point to this? Never quite sure why someone feels the need to tell someone else they paid too much. I got the car I wanted for what I consider to be a good price after doing a lot of shopping and investigation...but thanks for your concern for my financial wellbeing.

Looking at autotrader right now, when convertibles are notoriously cheaper in winter (summer prices are always higher): Add to this that it's sepang: 99 roadsters and 68 coupes. There's 4 to 8 times as many red, silver, black and blue roadsters (382, 613, 864, 478 respectively). Not knocking any color, just pointing out the relatively rarity of sepang. Even white is twice as common (217). I understand the selective bias though, you're much more likely to remember the cars with super low prices (there was a sepang roadster for 17k with 80k miles when I was looking for mine). If I ever see a coupe for that cheap I'm picking it up for a track car hah!

Yeah, I went and looked at another sepang in Chicago two weeks before. I could of had it for 24k, maybe a little less, but it was a little rough so I turned it down. I think there are a couple more on there now for less than I paid but a lot more miles and I doubt in anywhere near as good a shape.
