One of the Bimmerfest E36 forum members has got a trailer project like this in work currently.

A local guy has a hitch on his Z3M and has a little trailer that he brings to events with a set of tires, jack, tools, etc. Pretty cool!

There is a custom Z4M hitch thread floating around as well. Very well done and very well hidden behind the back bumper lower grill.
