New BMW software doesn't like my Z4M

I installed the oem alarm a few months ago and paid my dealer to code. Works fine but did not beep on locking (only on unlocking) so when I was there for my free oil change, I asked if they would code to beep on exit at no cost.

Two days later they finally give me the car back. They tried for four hours to get the car to talk to the computer. They even swapped out alarm bits. Finally BMW told them to use the older software and they were able to code the beep on locking.

Anyone know what is up with this?

There is definitely a 'bug' for the Z4 in regards to the alarm chirp...my dealer had the exact same issue and finally gave up!

Glad to hear using older software makes it work.

As a new owner I noticed my clown nose underneath the mirror blinks after locking the car. It does not beep upon locking or unlocking. Is my car equipped with a functional alarm? how can I tell - without breaking a window - LOL

The alarm is not standard equipment (I know, stupid!)... try arming the car with a window open and reach inside and open the door....if the alarm doesn't go off, you don't have the alarm.

mine only beeps during unlocking 100%. It beeps very intermittently upon locking. Didnt bother me too much since i know all Z4 owners have this problem. I just watch for the lights to blink or listen for the actuators before walking off.

It worked twice at the dealer but now no longer chirps when locking. Still flashes at least.

I had the exact same problem when I had my dealer code the alarm after installation. See this thread => http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthre...ighlight=alarm

The description of my problem on post #149, eventually with the solution on post #165

This won't work because locking the door with the key fob (remote) will not allow you to open the door at all from the inside of the car. I tried doing the exactly the same thing that you've describe after installing the alarm last year to test it out only to find out about this "feature". See post #134 of the above posted thread (http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthre...ighlight=alarm).

To verify whether you have an alarm installed, you can look for the hood switch for the alarm, which is located between the strut braces meeting at the firewall of the car.

Awwww shucks, thanks for the info! It was smart that they did that but that makes it harder to test the alarm The switch under the hood is a good way to verify.

Someone else posted on here that their dealer had luck with the programming of the chirp by erasing/defaulting all Car/Key features in the car, and then starting with the Alarm, adjusting them one by one until complete.

I don't know how well you know your dealer, as this would probably take an hour of their time, but maybe if you throw them a 30 pack of their favorite beer
