Ron, thanks. My milage intervals above are based on the S62, both from "research" and Blackstone UOAs. My #2 M coupe is now at 5K miles from purchase (9K miles at pick-up with fresh oil change, now 14K) - one year interval. Will be changing the oil in the next 1-2 weeks. When available I'll post the Blackstone UOA.

If the decision to do an inspection is only based on oil analysis and not symptoms, are you more worried about the overall metal lost (all combined tests) the current analysis or a combination? What value makes you concerned? I would also think this number would depend on how many miles you drove to get it?

Also, if you cut the oil change intervals in half and the metal lost also gets cut in half I assume the added change was a waste of time (wear per mile hasn't changed)?

It's not a simple linear interpolation. The theory is that as you use the oil, you will lose it's protective properties/additives and wear will accelerate. "Short" changing the oil will replenish those properties/additives and thus, will keep the wear in check.

Just got my Blackstone report back. Keep in mind this is my first report, and unfortunately I went much longer on this oil change interval than I usually do (this was 10K, I usually do 7K) due to some other circumstances.

Anyway, the report came back great for the most part, they even said that for an interval of 10K, it had readings of most metals that were on par/better with a 5K interval. However, my lead reading was 28PPM! I don't think leaded fuel was ever used on my car, and I haven't tracked it yet (previous owner claims to have never tracked it either), so who knows. Next report will continue to tell the story I guess and will have a few track days on it once that comes around too (in which case I will switch interval to 5K)

Oh and I have about 47K miles on my car.
