Beedub I feel your pain, drilling on a round surface is hard.
Try this, put a piece of duct tape in the area you are going to drill.
Using a centre punch give yourself a set point to align the drill bit, worse case use the sharp end of a nail as a centre punch.
The tape is to guard the finish on the pipe in case you slip and also helps a bit in stopping the drill bit from wandering.

No need...
The bolt is completely unseen from the bottom.

Got mine done.
I had mine off the car for other work, so it was pretty straight forward on the bench.
It shouldn't be much differnent on the car though, so long as you get it high enough to get behind the drill to push.

SS doesn't drill as cleanly as crs, it kind of chips off rather than the nice curled shaving you get with crs.

One thing to watch for is the burr left inside the pipe.
You may need to file it off to get the silencer to slide in.

Got out for a drive this afternoon.
HUGE reduction in the drone around 3k rpm, but not gone entirely.
Maybe 15 - 20 % noise reduction.

Very happy with the results.

drilled through back of tip.
would have preferred just drilling the pipe, but was concerned that it would be too far back.
in hind sight it probably would have worked.
Not really a big deal either way though.

Mine are painted black. pics don't show much at all.

Also, the silencers look to be a second generation compared to the pics further up in this thread.
They are a single pressed piece of pipe and the nut is welded in place on the inside.

ok.... mine are in.

Alot easier than first through. i used an 8mm cobalt drill bit, took it nice and slow slow, marked with a punch and hammer, all went very well, only slight had the drill walk which resulted in a tiny inset difference each side, but its pretty much perfect. i Had to loose the crush washer and only use the flat washer as i couldnt get the bolt to thread.

The actually drilling was pretty easy and this is definitely ok and easy on the car, be careful as the shards that come off are red hot, the cobalt drill piece showed signs of wear after this tiny amount of drilling, so if using a normal drill piece, take it SLOW.

As ian mentioned above mine were a single pressed piece that look good quality, nice tight fit in the tail pipe. i haven't had chance to start/drive the car but will do so tomorrow as i did this on my lunch break :-) they are pretty much unnoticeable installed, ill leave an allen key in the trunk so can install and remove as i please. Hoping for significant difference as reported!! ill get pics up later.

GREAT idea RPI.

how are you guys finding these silencers after a few months of install??

a definite improvement but still pretty loud.
main thing I like with the insert is the reduced drone.
If I can get that just a bit better, I will be happy.

Garage List
I just put my set on a few weeks ago when I was home on leave. I was able to get them mounted far enough back that the hole isn't going through the polished tip. It was pretty close though, just enough space to put a socket on it. I think they could go back further, but the mesh over the smaller pipe divert is getting in the way.

Total pain to drill the hole though. I took it to a shop where a long time friend works and we ended up breaking a couple smaller bits trying to get through the metal.

The nut on the inside is slightly noticeable when standing near the car, even with them as far back as I did. My car isn't lowered either so maybe if it was lower it wouldn't be as noticeable?

There is a small amount of difference in the drone, not much, but it is more tolerable on the highway.

Videos wouldn't be any good in my opinion. They don't capture the true volume of these cans without silencers, I doubt they will give you any representation after.

THIS....

if I'm honest I'm not sure if they even cut noise on this car, just alittle bit of drone, but its a nicer noise with them in for sure. i reckon i can just about live with it now, however if something else comes up or i win the lotto I'm off!
