Harness Mounting?
Hey there, trying to plan out a fixed back seat and harness solution for the coupe and ran across these pics of harness mounts through the OEM trim. Is this anyone's car? Does anyone know if there are hard points behind the trim that are safe for mounting harnesses? Seems like a great way to have a bar and harnesses without taking any space behind the seats or losing the storage compartment....

Seems like quite a clean install, I person would be a little anxious that those two mounting points would be able to hold up to potentially a lot of force with a front end collision, regardless to what they are fixed to. In addition it's very important to get the height of the anchors correct esp when using a hans device, that the belts don't pull down too hard in a collision.

Those are definitely the seat belt retractors. I just finished reinstalling mine.

I was able to find the company that did the bar..... The shop is called Cantrell Motorsports in Washington state. I wonder if they made a jig for the roll bar or harness mounts?

Well if it is a strong enough mounting point for the stock belts maybe will alittle extra reinforcement it would okay for mounting harnesses

Just to throw something else into the mix, I've been talking with Terry @ Vorshlag about having a harness bar made or some kind of solution. This might be something else worth looking into.

I don't want to pee in your soup, but a buddy of mine from work who is building a 944 track car, relayed to me that there is a current recall of Recaro seats (not sure what specific model(s)) b/c the shell was unstable in the event of impact. (as per HMS motorsport)
If the anchor point and bolts you are using are solid, then this otherwise appears to be an excellent option, and something I would have ended up going with a couple yrs ago before the half-cage went in. |

If I wasn't in MA, I would just send my car to them Also, the bar seems to be welded to the bulkhead and the rear shock mounts. I wonder if the rear bulkhead is strong enough to mount the roll hoop to vs. the floor.....

I don't have a cage of any sort, but I've been using the following...
Floor mounts: Macht Schnell (same as E46 fitment) Side mounts: Sparco steel mounts Seat: Sparco Pro2000 Harness: Sparco 6-point Harness bar: custom bar from a shop up in Canada, which makes use of the factory B-pillar mounting position. I bored the existing holes in the B-pillar just so I could put in larger bolts (felt it would be safer). |
