top problems

I have a 2.5 2005 z4
The other day the top went down but later it would not go back up.
I had to manually close the top , but the latches in the front still worked to lock it in place..
When i push the button in the dash i only hear the latches disengaging so the top can open but i don't hear top motor anymore. i have never had any problem with the top before.also i am no able to open the top manually even after pulling the cord with the red handle.

thank you all for your help

Sounds like your top motor has died. It's a common failure on the Z4. The drains for the top compartment get plugged, and the funnel the motor housing sits in gets full of water and floods the motor housing.
The motor dies from corrosion. Look up Shipkillers DIY on how to remove the soft top from the car and how to replace the motor. He details how to seal the motor housing as a preventative measure. If you're interested in relocating the motor to the trunk, look up my DIY on how to do that.
