Brake Problem
First problem. When braking from high speed the brakes pulsate, checked the owners book and it stated that high performance brakes warp if not used, cars been stored for 4-5 months, is that possible? Car has 17K and was dealer serviced before parking for winter.
Am I looking at a complete brake job, if so @cost?

Pulsation when braking usually indicates warped rotors. You could try bedding the pads again and see if that clears it up since you car has been sitting for a time. But if the rotors are warped you will need to replace them.

You will probably find that there is rust accumulated around a pad imprint on the rotor that needs to be worn off. Just sitting shouldn't cause warping. The floating rotors on the Z4M are virtually impossible to warp, anyway, but the sliding pins between the aluminium hat and cast iron rotor could have seized. Follow the Zeckhausen method for brake bedding to see if the problem goes away: http://www.zeckhausen.com/bedding_in_brakes.htm.
If you do have to replace all 4 rotors and pad sets, it will cost you about US$1000 (for example: http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-21...4-m-coupe.aspx). If someone does it for you, add a few hundred $ more, at the dealer it will probably be US$2000 all-in. |
