As for rule #2, you might just add 2a - check the rims of the supposed nice car - if they are all tore to hell and back from curb rash, you have found a lease car, the driver actually doesn't give a shit and very well may just open their door right into your nice car....

I don't think parking next to a "nice" car is as safe as parking next to a car that is well taken care of. We've all scene soccer moms in nice cars; I'd rather park next to some Fast and Furious ricer that just dumped a couple grand on painting his car lime green and purple
On the topic of valets - has anyone else had a problem with them pulling the illuminated shifter off the boot and exposing the wires? Last time it happened the dude pulled up and ran off real fast like he thought he destroyed my car lol. They really need to put a set screw in those things. I stand by no 2, I think "POS" encompasses cars not well taken care of. Although I should have included clean well cared for instead of "expensive" as idiots are just as likely to have money as anybody. (politicians and pro athletes comes to mind) Bottom line on this one - If people wont take care of their own car they wont care about yours.

Never next to SUVs. Usually about 3/4 the way out from the door...unless it's my office I park right outside

I always look for an spot at the end of the row. I NEVER park in or near a handicap spot. Not only is it bad Karma but I've seen the mechanical ramps unfold into some poor guy's door (or a wheelchair ram into the side going in/out). I'm also cautious to not park under any pine trees cause I hate washing that yellow pollen and sticky tree sap off.

Just reminded me, I've been meaning to get some giant "ASSHOLE" bumper stickers ordered just for instances like that.

Man I'd usually have a hard time believing someone that requires a handicap placard would be driving a Z4. BUT there's a guy in my condo that doesn't have any legs (wheelchair) and he drives a Mazda Rx8. I haven't seen him get in and out of the car---but kudos to him for not having his disability force him into a mini-van or the like. Using a placard when you're not handicapped though, that's extremely uncool. I'd expect your car to have a higher probability of getting vandalized for that.
Me, I usually park near a curb when available. Or on the passenger side of a car. If I am going to park further away from a busy centre, it's always near a main street / sidewalk. If it's not somewhere that there is a lot of traffic, I prefer to park 'with the crowd'. I've had two cars broken into previously by parking 'furthest away' from the enterance. At malls I always fold up the mirrors. Other than that, I don't really care too much... it's a car, you drive it, dings will happen, rock chips will happen, bent rims will happen. Guess I factor it into my cost of ownership, though I know not everyone is like that. |
