I'm positive for rear, but with doubts for front.

Thanks.
If you stick to a 225 you'll be fine. If you move up to a 235, you might rub (not because it's too wide but the tire would sit taller if you stuck with a 40 sidewall). Only problem with a 225 is that it's a little narrow for that tire so you might lose the sidewall protection so be careful against the curbs. If you're in the market for new tires, I would suggest with going a RS3 or Star Spec which is known to sit wider than other brands so a 225 RS3 would be almost as wide as 235 as some other brands.

I checked the whole topic before submitting a post.
And from that picture I can not tell what additional 4mm would do/look like.

Thank you very much.
I'll buy new tires for sure. You mean Hankook R-S3 or Cooper RS3?
So the rim won't stick out the front side panel? My biggest concern besides rubbing.

It's been a while so don't recall stock offsets but these wheels will stick out at least 10mm more than your factory wheels. It'll give a nice flush stance but I don't think it'll stick past the fenders. But like I said with a 225 you won't rub anywhere, however with a 235 you might rub where wheel liner where the bumper meets the fender.

I meant Hankook R-S3. Both the R-S3 and Star Specs I mentioned are high performance summer tires so if you're not dealing with snow, you should be fine. I personally like the SS a bit more because they handle wet better.

Worst case, if you do find yourself rubbing, you can pick up a set of Rogue Engineering fixed camber plates, get an alignment and dial in some negative camber which will help will help with handling at the slight expense of uneven tire wear. But I don't think these will be necessary.

Great, many thanks for the explanation.

And yeah, the car is driven only in nice weather -from April till November.

Could I get some opinions on these rim/tire combos? My main concerns are if I would have rubbing issues, if the tires would look stretched, and if they would stick out past the fender. Also, I can't decide between the 18" or 19". I like the look of the 19", but I'm worried it will crack/bend on Oklahoma's mediocre roads. Is there significantly more risk of damage between the 18" and 19"?

I have a '03 3.0i with the sport/perf package and factory suspension. Using http://www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp, I came up with these set ups:

Apex ARC-8
Front:
Tire - 225/40R18
Wheel - 18x8.5 ET38
Difference - 9mm (.4")

Rear:
Tire - 255/35R18
Wheel - 18x9.0 ET42
Difference - 8mm (.3")

VMR V718
Front:
Tire - 225/35R19
Wheel - 19x8.5 ET45 CB72.6 5x120
Difference - 2mm (.1")

Rear:
Tire - 255/30R19
Wheel - 19x9.5 ET45 CB72.6 5x120
Difference - 5mm (.2")

Thanks!

If you want the rears to be dished which gives a more aggressive look you will need 9.5 width but in the 18s with et 35 they may be outside the wheel arch. might be worth asking if anyone has this set up on the rear with sports suspension, as I said in my previous post I am 19 x 9.5 et 42 not sure I could move out another 7mm.

Youll be fine with 9.5" ET 35 and 265 in the rear.

If you see on page 7 in this thread Ive posted pics of my gold BBS LM reps. There you have 9.5 ET 35 with 275. It barely touched the outer side of the tire in the fender. So with 265 it would fit perfectly.

Im going for 9.5x18 ET35 with 265/35 Michelin PSS next year.

FWIW, I have Apex wheel/tire specs and pics from kklin's Z4 M Coupe for SCCA BSP (road tire) that you might extrapolate from.

Sweet, if ET35 and 265 tires should fit with no rubbing, then I can get the concave ones for the rear!

What offset would you guys recommend for the front? Or is the 18x8.5 ET38 a good choice to go with the 18x9.5 et35 rear?

They have the front in: 18x8.5 ET45 and 38, 18x9 ET42

Can I get some input as to whether a 235/35/19 tire on a 19x8.5x35 wheel will rub up front? My 3.0si coupe has the sport package.

For completeness, the rear would be 265/30/19 on a 19x9.5x45 wheel.

Have same type info need before buying wheels and tires

Hi All,

New to Z4 world. Need some wheel/tire advice.

Just purchased a 2007 Z4 Coupe 3.0si with steptronic with 8 K miles – mint condition. The non M Z4 with steptronic choice is due to a number of complicated reasons. I am a HPDE Instructor with PCA and BMWCCA. Had a dedicated track car. Now need some new Z4 (non M) owner advice in two categories.

Q #1 - What more aggressive wider 18" wheel and tire sizes will fit my non M Z4? Know the non Z4 wheel wells seem to be smaller? I ran CCW Classics 255F and 275R RA's for the track only on my track car. What wider wheel sizes and tires can I run on a non M Z4?? (have 18" x 8 wheels 225F and 18x8.5 255R original run flats). Z4 Suggestions I have gotten is the Hankook Venus V12 Evo for street and occasional DE's? Maybe run 235/40 F on 18” on 8.5 APEX EC-7 F, and 265/35 Apex EC-7's R. What yee think?

Q #2 – How does the non M Z4 with steptronic paddle shifter work for HPDE days on the track?? What modifications would be wise for occasional DE use? Most of the time I am in the student's car so will not do a lot of track hours. If I can get better wheel tire package, do I need to add SS brake lines, more aggressive brake pads?, higher temp brake fluid? Other minor changes that would help for occasional DE use?

I would appreciate some opinions.

Tom

How about this combo ?

I have a 2006 Z4. 18X9 ET35 for front and 18X10 ET40 for the rear. Will be purchasing Eibach PRO Kit. Widest tire size to go with Eibach springs without rubbing issues and widest size to go without lowering. Also, does anybody have this same wheel set up.

Does anyone know the max negative camber we can generally achieve on a non-M Z4 front end by simply removing the strut pins? Can't find that info anywhere.

I just received a set of Apex ARC-8 17x9et30 wheels and plan on running 245/40r17 RS-3's in the front. Trying to get an idea if I need camber plates to fit without major rub (I know it will be close without them, if it even works at all). I would prefer to NOT have to buy the plates.

Thanks!

With pins removed AND fixed camber plates I dialed in -1.8. You figure the plates add about 0.75* so say -1.0 max on a good day.

A bit late but

1) The Non-M's have same tire fitment as the non-M e46 or E36 M3 but with even slightly more clearance. For square, you can run 255 on all 4 on a 9" wide rim, assuming a mid 30 offset. I believe that's what Apex tested their 17" Arc-8's initially. For staggered, stick with a 8 to 8.5" with 225 up front, I had issues with 235/40 due to extra height. Offset should be upper 30's to low 40's (basically shaving off 15mm from factory offsets).

2) No experience with the Step but you'll definitely want track pads and high temp fluids. I had good success with PFC 06 or 08 pads although I recently upgraded to 11's. I stick to Motul 600, full flush beginning of season, and a bleed every 1-2 weekends of events. SS lines are not needed but a nice plus.

Probably asked a thousand times, but...

Will ///M wheels work on non-///M? I'm moving to warmer climate and want to sell my winter wheel/tire package locally and non-M are of course much more common. FWIW the rear tires are 245.

I ordered a set of 18s:
8.5 et35 front
9.5 et43 rear

Apex tells me these will work on a stock z4 3.0si.

For tires they recommend:
235/40 front
255/35 rear

I'm wondering if 265/35 will work for the rears though. I'm worried the 255 will look stretched on a 9.5 rim since stock is 8.5 with a 255 and it looks good. Does anybody have any experience with 265 for the rear and this rim size and offset?

Depends on the tire, something aggressive like Star Spec or RS-3 will not look stretched. But something like a Yoko S-drive will. 265 should be fine but a little camber wouldn't hurt. Worst case you can roll the rears which is pretty easy on these cars.

Turns out the 265s fit just fine. No rubbing. The 235s up front rub the plastic fender liner only on big bumps and it's just the access panel door. I think if I snugged up the plastic I should be fine. It's only a very light rub so I probably won't don't any honestly. I'm running the Michelin pilot super sports.
