vanos noise....

i've been hit with the bug.... just started last week... oddly enough when i was leaving a porsche dealer...how poetic.
i took it to my dealer, they claim it is normal, and there is no fix... i'm not thrilled.

a 'raspy and/or tapping' noise in first gear under average to light acceleration.... almost sounds like a leak at the headers... it ranges from soft to fairly noticeable... non-existent out of first gear. sucks. should be interesting to see what happens when i go to trade in old 'chitty-chitty-bang-bang' and they take it for a test drive....

I've got vanos noise in the first 3-4 gears. How hard I accelerate definitely effects the sound. BMW claims its normal. Please post if you find something different.

All the S54 engines do this to some extent, whether in the M3 or Z4M. Should be most noticeable from 3000 to 3500 RPM. Shouldn't have any effect on trade-in. Engine noise on the Z4M is much more noticeable than on other BMWs due to lack of noise insulation on the underside of the hood.
