OH NO! Chipped Hood!

K so I been driving my z4 daily for a little over a month now. It's a great car.

But a rock chipped my hood paint and now it's starting to crack & peel around it!

What do I do to keep it from peeling further?

Is this covered by BMW? (I doubt it)

I'm afraid to wash her and make it worse but she seriously needs a bath with the pollen we've been having here in north GA.

Is there a minor thing I can do to keep it from peeling further (clear nail polish over the spot or something? anything? guys please help I've never had this kind of paint issue with any of my cars? (I can't afford to take it to a body shop right now - I'm in the middle of a heated legal battle and need to conserve every penny - will fix in the coming month or two when I can afford if BMW doesn't cover it)

Must have been a heck of a rock to cause the paint to begin peeling. I doubt BMW will cover it, but you could try arguing that their factory paint didn't correctly bond to the sheet-metal, hence the peeling. Maybe ask them to split to cost of a repaint.

I don't have any suggestion on stopping the damage from continuing. How big is the area? Do you have any pics?
Best suggestion is to get the hood resprayed and have a clear-bra done.

I told my wife that but she growled at me.

yeah I doubt they'll cover it as well. It started out at about a 3 mm circle and it's spread to about double the size.

I'll work on getting a picture.

I have some BSM touchup paint from the dealer and it comes with a clear coat as well for after the paint. On my rock ships I have never had any peeling when using those together. Hope it all works out!

minor update : thx all for posting

After carefully going over the hood and carefully cleaning it this weekend I've noticed several small defects in the hood paint. This is very likely because of the vehicle being in 1 fender bender under the care of the previous owner. I'm trying to track down the repair shop and see what kind of warranty they put on their work because this is shoddy. It's not so easy as the vehicle was leased before and I didn't buy from the previous owner .

oh yikes. Maybe BMW will know who the leaser was. Just tell them why you are trying to contact them and hopefully they will either give you some info, or contact the person and give them your info.

Good luck :|
