Doing due diligence for a friend...

5UMDU93467LL93824

Located in Bedford, VA. Black or Sapphire Black with Imola Red interior, about 87K miles on the clock. Looks to be a write-off.

Anyone know the history or why it's on a salvage lot? A friend of mine is looking to pick it up and recondition it into a BMW CCA/NASA competitive race car.

Garage List
I think this will explain why it was on a salvage lot...

All I can see is the right front is trashed, and "RUNS".
Looks like a steal. It'll buff out.

Ouch. Looks like it has heavy front involvement on the passenger side. Depends on how much work your friend can do. I've seen a E36 M3 cut back to the rails at the firewall and rebuilt into a competitive car. Just depends on skills, resources, and hours available.

That's the listing he forwarded. Even with the miles, that's way too low to have caused the car to be "salvaged" IMO. That would indicate the car was worth less than $16k when insurance wrote it off.

If it's just front end frame damage, it can be fixed and reconditioned into any number of classes for around $10k. $18K for a decent race chassis would be a STEAL.

Just trying to figure out WHY it's so cheap.

Exactly.
If I had somewhere to store it, I'd buy it just to keep for spare parts.
Maybe they left out a small detail like "after the crash it careened into a lake".

Giggled out loud at work at this.

I saw this posting back up there last year sometime around September/October time frame. Makes me lean more towards hack's original assumption, something isn't being stated.
