After installing the new alarm, fixing the brake pad issue, I found another issue that may keep me off the track in two weeks unless I order this week...

Putting the tire back on the car, I found a nail in it. The nail did not go all the way through so no plug was needed.

But after getting the tire on, I spotted the the problem in the second picture. Not sure how long it was there but I don't think the tire will take a track weekend.....

But on the other hand, when I saw the thread title, I was expecting something far more insidious (pool of oil, broken spring, misc. suspension issues, leaking diff, etc.).

Not a good thing to find, but it sure could have been worse....

Ouch. You got screwed and sidewall damage. Def need new tire. Sucks this happened so close to the track day. Hopefully you can get it worked out before the track day.

Both the screw and sidewall damage is on the same tire.

I am thinking that this calls for four new tires.....

I was trying to burn these tires off before I ordered new tires. Now I have to decide if I want to replace this bad tire or order four new tires, of a different type...

I only have 12,500 miles on these stock OEM tires.

Stock Contis? Man, I hated those tires (hard, harsh, no grip, no feel), so I'd vote to whack them all and get new tires. Good thread going here--and as I'm sure you know I like the Star Specs a lot. (Went with the 235/40/18 and 265/35/18 sizing on OEM wheels; could have gone 245/275, but I didn't want to push max rubber on those size wheels).

I ordered our new set on a Friday from Tire Rack and they were at the shop ready for install on Tuesday. (Click through the banner on the forum if you order so the forum gets credit.) If you order today, you could probably have them on in time to do some run in on them prior to your track day....

Pretty decent tire size calculator here which helps in keeping the difference under the "magic" 3% variance from stock. Tires we selected are a bit smaller diameter, but I'd rather go that direction than larger (smaller gives an ever so slightly increase in gear ratio....).

I am currently shopping tires. TireRack already has my info, since I bought a set from them for my wife's Roadster. The runflats had to go.

I was thinking to just replace the bad tire, but the stock Contis are WAY expensive... I can have better tires for less....

But, I am going to call the dealer Monday and see if they can replace it under warranty. Crap shoot. Can't hurt to ask....
Its the sidewall damage I am really concerned with.

Thanks for the size info. That saves me a cubic butt ton of searching the threads for + sizes...

I have not signed up yet for the end of July. That is a spur of the moment if I can get it in. I already have committed to a track weekend in Sept..

Someone is thinking today! Great idea and way to get more life out of the other three.

For example, I have a 245/40/18 PS2 with about 30-40 percent wear left just lying around (no Contis however) I'd hand off to someone local if they wanted it....

I am looking at both the 235/40, 235/45 and 265/35, 265/40. Not sure yet. Also in the back of my mind is to keep the stock size since I will burn through any tire I buy.. This is the frugal side talking.....

I am starting to warm up to the Continental ExtremeContact DW's..
Good reviews from TireRack.

One aspect that I cannot overlook in a tire is how it performs in the wet. I drive my M every day and that is a BIG consideration. The stickiest tire in the world does me no good if I slide the car into a jersey barrier in the rain...

Never heard of wheel/tire coverage, so the answer to your question is no.

Sorry about your tire, but you don't want to take this car to the track with those tires to begin with if you want traction. They are pretty much the worst high performance tire I've driven on. They are still on my car as I don't track it, and I am not that sensitive to their rather poor performance on public roads.

Shipkiller, for what it's worth, I installed the Conti ExtremeContact DWS last summer (although I don't plan on the S part(snow) being a factor) and they have been a great upgrade from the stock Brickstones that came on my '03 roadster (non M, sport pkg.). I can only guess that the DW's would offer much better performance for your coupe.

TireRack has the Conti ExtremeContact DW in stock sizes but not the 235/40. I emailed the salesman that sold me the General UHP's for the Roadster to see how long before they get that size back in stock.
