Meguiars Prices at Autozone
For the cheapskates like me who wonder if they could save an extra dollar by comparing Amazon to brick and mortar stores.
Prices for Meguiars Mirror Glaze products carried at Autozone are below. These prices are in PA, but shouldn't vary much from state to state. #26 Hi-Tech Yellow Wax (16oz) - $13.99 #7 Show Car Glaze (16oz) - $14.49 #9 Swirl Remover 2.0 (16ox) - $15.99 #205 Ultra Finishing Polish (32oz) - $29.99 #2 Fine Cut Cleaner (16oz) - $15.99 #1 Medium Cut Cleaner (16oz) - $15.99 #105 Ultra-Cut Compound (32oz) - $33.99 |

CG is good, but M105/205 is the best polishes on the market right now.
I have 7 Menzerna Polishes sitting on my shelf compared to M105/205 which I use most of the time now. Prices are a bit more than detailedimage or similar...but for a convenience factor those could work |

How often do you find yourself using M105? My experience is all with less aggressive compounds. I know 105/205 is the combo everyone recommends, but I've never found myself needing something with as much cut as 105.

Hey guys, you seem to know a little about this stuff, I've got some swirls in my paint (obviously need the swirl remover) but how do you recommend to apply it??

Vanne,
I would highly recommend a dual action polisher like this: http://www.harborfreight.com/6-in-va...her-69924.html Its easy to use, and totally safe. Unlike a rotary polisher, you can't hurt the paint with a dual action polish. The clutch will stall out before you can heat up the paint and damage it. I'm guessing its tough to get harbor freight stuff in Dubai. The polish I recommended above is also sold by Meguiars, Griot's Garage, and Porter Cable. They all have different labels on them (and will cost about twice as much as HF), but they are the same polish, same motor, etc. This chart will help you decide what compound you need: http://www.auto-geek.net/charts/wax-...art-master.htm I would guess something between 3 and 7. Unless your paint is really trashed, you don't need something as strong as #105 Ultra Cut Compound above. And if you can't get Mirror Glaze products, the Meguiars Ultimate Compound and Ultimate Polish are very similar forumlas, and I've worked with both in the past with good results. If you're going to do the buffing by hand, it might be easier to use something with more cut (closer to a 7 on the charge above). Good luck! |

It has been 3 years since M105 has touched the paint. I'll probably detail this winter again and stick to M205 and PO85RD on the paint to just clean it up |

jdouble, wow mate, that chart rocks. thanks for that, I've got a black n decker random orbital buffer that i picked up a while back, but have been too afraid to use it yet.. ill probably stick with the meguires number 3 swirl remover as the paint is actually in quite good nick.
Ill hopefully try and have a go over the next 2 weeks or so, depending on what the missus has planned for me. so if i start with the swirl remover, and give that a bash, then what should i follow it up with? do i need to reseal? or should i just wax over after that and be done with it?

Although I do use Mequiars 105 as a third step correction to go after those deeeep swirls, I absolutely hate using those products... Terrible, I mean terrible work time. I am a bit of a detailing snob so if its available at Auto Zone or Advanced I tend to stay away....
Check out Detailers Domain for good prices on worth while products! They are located in northern New Jersey, shipping would most likely only take 1 day to PA. I was going to recommend Menzerna and Sonax products but it seems like your trying to save money..... sorta opposing ideas being you own an //M |

I'm sorry, but that is just funny. Jim Brown Method with M105/205. If you don't think you can work the product well, you aren't doing it correctly. |

Maybe I worded it worng but no, thats not what I said.... I even mentioned I still USE 105 But the idea of going to Autozone for "detailing" products reminds me of somebody who would overpay for cheap MF towels, buy a paint damaging water blade, drill attachment for headlight resto, or other shit consumer products like black box wax.... Yes, Meguiars has been around for a long time, they have some good products. Why short yourself with what is available at a local car parts store?? There is no denying 105 can cut but has a very short work time! There is a reason they give you such a big bottle And for that price I can think of a handful of other compounds that will cut harder, finish better, and have a longer work time. I have Wolfgang, Chemical Guys, Poorboys, Klasse, Dodo Juice...etc all in my garage. Just because it is offered local doesnt mean it should be looked down upon. PS - If you want something better, Meguiars M101 is out on the market. Have fun paying for that pricetag though. |

Vanne,
Really it depends what your results are after using the swirl remover. You might find yourself wanting to use some #205 polish afterwards, but swirl remover is already very low cut, almost to the point of being a polish, so you may not need it. If you decide to do it by hand, maybe use the Meguiars Ultimate Polish instead of #205. Its a bit easier to work by hand. After polish just wax as normal. I've never used the #26 yellow wax above, I like the Ultimate Paste Wax. You also could do a Glaze in between the polish and wax, but I would probably only go through the effort of doing a glaze if it was a full out detail, with clay before hand, careful attention to every little detail (clean and treat ever rubber spot, under license plate, etc., you know what I mean). Applying Meguiars Glaze is a lot of effort, I would reccomend googling how to apply it if you choose to do so, because it doesn't work like a polish or wax. Good luck! Check out autogeek.net if you want to learn more above obsessive level car detailing. And I'm only going to make one response to the other comments above, other than to agree with Kgolf31. Those drill headlight tools are right at home in a professional's detailing bag; they're the perfect tool to apply final plastic polish after a 7 step wetsand (400/600/800/1000/1200/1500/2000). |
