Any modifications youd like to see?
I have a shop in Ohio and we specialize in BMW. This season we will be hitting the track pretty hard with our new project Z4MR. I have worked closely with machine shops in the past and have the resources to do some product development and research. Are there any parts youd like to see designed for the Z4M that do not exist? Any parts that youd like to see designed/built better? Let me know in this thread!!! Ill see what I can get into this spring.

Wow. Most appreciated. I have to put some thought into it. Will respond later on--taking a 5 minute break from brake pads/fluid and other prep for the first trackday of the season next Sat.

Not sure how sophisticated the shop is but maybe cheaper alternative for catless headers (as opposed to Euro, CSL, Supersprint) and maybe a front strut bar (instead of oem, Strong Strut)...

I'd have said a rear floating 2 piece brake rotor assembly except it looks like racingbrake has started producing them.
A cheaper alternative to the BMW motorsport carbon airbox, maybe using aluminum? I really want someone to design a modular shift knob, as a recent post points out the Jafster knob is cool due to its extra height & leverage. But it looks like a sex toy. I'd like an ergonomic shape but has ability to be shortened or lengthened by inserting shims, Made from Delrin or some other plastic so as not to overheat or overcool dependent on ambient temp. I have a Sparco Speed knob, something like that but with a screw on sections. Other ideas a clutch & lightweight flywheel package. An adjustable front splitter. Design criteria would have it mount to a hard point on the chassis not the bumper. Splitter would be adjustable forward & back within a 3-4" range. Ideally the design would be proven out with some real aero measurement. +1 for brake cooling ducts, something that connects the stock ducts up to a tube that directs air over brake pads & thru rotor vanes. |

+1 for carbon fiber driveshaft. I'd also like to see a carbon fiber hood.
It's a little easier to lighten the back of the car (battery, cans), or the middle (seats) than it is the front, so anything that can drop weight from the front would be great.

thanks for all the input!!! i am excited to see what we can come up with this season. i do have some relations with aeronautical companies so designs wont be just aesthetic. i am already in the process of designing some strut bars for a few different BMW models.

Very good suggestions and ideas from folks.
+1 on "proper heads up gauge pod". Would be nice to have oil pressure, oil and water temp, etc. +1 on the structurally attached and adjustable splitter. I'll add to the list some kind of shift light. I miss that from the E92, would be nice to have on the track as you can see if using peripheral vision. Even better if it could indicate low and high rev ranges. Some thoughts and just insight/feedback on suspension tuning, wheels, offsets, etc. of the Z4M and sharing of that knowledge would probably be invaluable. Not sure about a carbon fiber door. The empty door shell only weighs 30 lbs, not much to save there side to side. The internals, fittings, and trim are what add up. Strut brace from Rogue is just nearing completion, and Rogue is also on deck for FCABs. That may not be the best place to put resources, and folks here have already asked Rogue to work on them. Schnitzer may also have the brake ducts coming on line based on his post above and elsewhere, not sure if there is an ETA though. Ducts would be fantastic, no matter who does them! |

these are all great ideas. i think the brake ducts are very useful, as well as front splitter. i see rogue is coming out with a race brace, how about one solid piece that replaces the V bars that come stock and also runs across the engine bay??? ill have some testing to do this spring. we are currently making some steering wheel spacers for some older model BMWs right now.
