March 2011 E89 Battery Question (Warranty of 5 years but now it is 4 years & 7 mths)
Hi,
I am the 2nd owner of an E89. Purchased this car only a month back. I was informed that the battery is covered under warranty for 5 years. Under my ownership of 1 month and 4 days, i feel that it is losing its power to crank at the very first instance. Lights, radio, MP3 all work fine as they should. No other accessories apart from my cigarette socket mobile handphone charger and the Blackvue 2-channel cameras (connected via the 12V cigarette socket and will only switch on when the ignition is on). Should it fail any time now, would the dealer still (likely) honour the warranty? I am raising this question because as it is right now, i am already approaching the 5-year mark. What if it fails on the 5 year 11mth mark? Would be lovely to get a new battery now so that it would be good to go for another 5 years! |

Don't think your dealer will do anything unless it failed their load test.
If it doesn't start but still charges up fine, they will send you on your merry way after recharging the battery for you - they will simply blame you for not driving the car enough to recharge the battery. |

This is true for batteries purchased outside of your original bumper-to-bumper new car warranty. However, your car's warranty will completely cover your battery replacement should it deemed the battery to be faulty.

BMW batteries are 2 years full coverage and 3 years "Pro-rated" so you will only be compensated for a portion of the battery and never including labour. Literally just cost of battery.

BMW warranties must be different between US and Canada as there are no mention of the battery exception/exclusion in the attached warranty and maintenance document. Just notice the OP's location, so this may be a moot point since the OP is neither in the US or Canada
