Complete Fluid Maintenance

I think I'm going to jump on this one really soon as the PO didn't keep the best records. So why not restart the process. And I just brought her out of hibernation. Just wondering if anyone has posted up anything relating to this all in one place. I didn't see anything but then again as I get close to 50 years old, when I search the forums I often skate right past stuff right in front of my nose.

Here's what's on the list...... for my Z4M roadster.

Replace both belts - OEM BMW
Brake fluid
Clutch fluid
Transmission fluid
Rear Differential fluid
Engine oil
Coolant

The clutch fluid is the same fluid/reservoir as the brake fluid. You just bleed the clutch from the bottom of the car.

-Transmission fluid : OEM BMW 75w90 MTF-LT3 (buy 2 liters fill till pours)
-Differential fluid : OEM is pricy $160, but I've been using Liqui-Moly Fully Synthetic Limited Slip Differential Fluid 75W140 (buy 2 liter fill till pours) It works amazing, for half the price.
-Brake fluid : OEM recommended unless you plan on tracking it (buy 2-3 bottles to flush out entire brake system and clutch)
-Coolant : OEM recommended of course
-Engine oil : 10w60 Castrol or BMW brand (shell) w/oem filter

EcsTuning.com has all these products at great prices! All in stock too. Should cost you around $300-350 for all the fluids (recommend changing the diff (2)/trans (2)/oil pan plugs too)

Would you guys recommend "Royal Purple 01512 Synchromax High Performance Synthetic Manual Transmission Fluid" as a substitute?

That's what I have in my coupe and I love it. Big difference over the OE fluid (that's in my roadie) in terms of feel, especially with the 1-2 shift.

Just put this in mine about a month ago, so far so good

Would NOT recommend Royal's MaxGear oil in the diff though. It says on the bottle it has FM added, but it was groaning like a mother. Switched back to redline 75w140 and she's quiet again

I've heard the same thing about this on the E46 M3 side, quite a bit of complaints about the RP Diff Oil making noises. Redline seems to be quite popular on the E46 side as well.

+1 for Royal Purple Synchromax in the tranny. I've got over 30K miles experience with it (just changed at 60K last fall) and it has been great. Smooth shifts even in sub-freezing temps.

Sometimes with an LSD when you switch formulas the friction modifiers in the new fluid have to displace the friction modifiers from the old formula that have saturated the LSD clutch discs. The LSD can be quite noisy until this happens and it may take some time (multiple hundred miles) to get a complete change of FM in the LSD clutches. You have to really have faith the new lube is worth it to have the patience to wait it out....
