Donate Your Unwanted Headlight for Science

This is a long shot but worth asking IMO. There are a lot of people here (myself included) that are interested in headlight mods for the Z, but options are limited and expensive. Information on working with our headlights is scarce, and as such expensive pieces, it's tough to use your own working lights as a guinea pig.

So I'd like to put it out there that if anybody has a busted headlight housing laying around, send it my way and I'll document my efforts here for the community to share. It doesn't need to be in good shape, functional, or with any electronics. I'd like to figure out the best way to get the lens off, whether it's finding the right temperature or some other means. It'll all go up here, free for all, and you can have it back when I'm done if you like (no promises it'll be in the same shape ). I'll cover the shipping too!

I thought it was already determined that baking doesn't work for our headlights. I'm probably not telling you anything you don't already know, but here is a good write-up on removing the housing. I think it always involves cutting on our headlights.

It would be awesome if someone could create an upgraded headlight for our cars that included a new housing, and we could use the expensive parts from our existing headlights without worrying about perfectly preserving the housing.

Good luck with your quest!

Wow great post, hadn't seen that one before. Looks like I got beat to the punch! Zpost provides as usual

I too have heard often that cutting is only way to get the lens off, but to be fair I heard the same about getting the little bayonet bulb out of its holster, or lifting the vanos out of the car... Both times those items came out easily for me, maybe I'll get lucky here too lol

Man reading all that makes me want to go try this now, already have a few sets of LED's collecting dust... maybe I'll finally grow some balls this month and try

Thanks Salty
