Coilover Install

Guys,

I just got my coilovers and before I take the car apart I want to make sure I have all the parts that I am going to need

I have the coilovers with camber plates at the front.

Do I need any of the items below:

1) Adjustable Front Sway Bar End Links

2) Rear Adjustable Camber Arms

I am running 9.5" front rim and 10.5 rear rim so I know I need at least -2° camber front and rear.

Much appreciated

IMO those things are stuff that you figure out as you install. No way to tell whether you'll need EITHER until you've installed it and determined ride-height.

The answer is yes, no, and maybe.

It's pretty much the same for all of us. I am talking reasonable height that most of us are using.

The one that really bothers me is the front sway bar link. I don't want my car to be sitting on my mechanic's hoist because I am missing those.

Thanks

Sigh.

Yes. No. And Maybe. You will need end-links if the ride height results in uneven preload. You will need camber arms if you're slammed to the ground. With ZERO variables you've given us, there's nothing else to go on but...

Yes. No. And Maybe.

Maybe if you provided the actual coil-over system (say, a coil-over that one of us have installed), the actual ride-height you're planning on (the coil-over I have varies in ride height from almost an inch higher than stock at the highest position, to about 1/2 inch lower than stock at the lowest position...Again, that's a HUGE variable), and/or if the installation process ends with both side being of uneven height (say, if you were to corner balance the car and it requires several turns of one collar vs. the other).

This is akin to "my car understeers. Help me fix it."

FWIW, I needed a new set of end links when I installed mine. Not because they didn't fit, but because the boots had worn out. ~60k miles at the time, check yours out

I bought the Scale off of Montreal. Turns out they forgot to ship the Sway bar mount - it's adjustable so I am happy.

Because it looks like Scale is very similar to Fortune Auto but not as popular I have one question regarding the rear suspension.

Do you need to change the top spring pad or not? Please look at the picture

To me that looks way too big of a difference between the two diameters. It's is extreme hard to get in touch with Scale - well it's impossible, so I need some help here.

Thanks in advance

Pic isn't showing

I assume it's a 2.5" dia spring.
There are rear upper perches available from R.Eng Turner et al.

Got the 2.5" perches, the rear shock mounts and the rear adjustable control arms. I guess when you do a job you do it right the first time.

I've spent a bit too much this season but I hope I get it right.

Now I hope I make it all happen before May 15th.

Do swift springs settle a little bit? I have 10K front and 10K rear. Does anyone have personal experience how much they'll settle?

It seems like I am going to be adjusting the coilovers all the way down and probably still be too high.

Anyone with Fortune Auto coilovers that could chip in with experience. There isn't much difference between Scale and Fortune Auto.

Thank you

Settling with Swift is negligible.

Can someone give me a good BMW shop in the east end of GTA - Scarborough? Or an alignment/suspension shop. By the looks I need to roll my fenders. Something I didn't want to do but I need second opinion and someone that has worked on BMWs and can give me straight and informed answer.

Thanks

What size rims and tires you have? I've taken all my BMWs to Altech Automotive, but he is on west end Kipling/Bloor area.

Looks great and love that colour! did you end up rolling your fenders? Makes me want to go out and drive mine, I think I just might do that right now and drive a few twisties for an hour before lunch LOL.

You gotta loose that "Best Buy Auto" frame though.

No fender rolls. Will have to use the heat gun on the fender liners front and rear. The slightest of rubs. 9.5"x19"ET22 fronts with 10.5"x19"ET25 rears - Vorsteiner VFF 103. Running 2.5° negative camber front and rear, 0° toe. Not as bad as I initially thought.
