finally went to the circuit but...

after some thoughts finally i got the chance of going to the circuit with some other bmws and mini coopers but whn i got to a straight line a mini cooper s accelerated right until it catched up with me, stood by my side like half of a second and then left me behind, i felt so humiliated so i was wondering how should i accelerate to get the most of my engine, i mean i am no expert but i feel my car a little too slow and i guess its my fault as i dont know the proper revs to shift. by the way my car is a z4 si. thanks guys, oh and i almost forgot my car was just lovely on the curves

wait you have a 3.0si? If so then a mini should not even touch you on a straight line. What do you mean you don't know when to shift? These cars love to rev high, so you shift maybe 100 rpms before redline when you want to go fast. I guess in the 3.0si its about 6,800rmps? good luck man

Also, at what point in the straight did the mcs catch up to you? If was closer to coming out of a turn (if there was one) or decent curve, you could've come out in too high of a gear. If they were in a better gear and you were stuck lugging your engine....(?). Also, as Dubbedown mention, was the mcs stock or with a few goodies under the hood?

Either way, nothing to be humiliated over. You're a noob so you're going to make mistakes and won't be the fastest car on the track.

mine is a 2.5si = 218 horse power and 0-60 in like 6.4. my car is manual but as i said i dont know when to shift, im shifting like 2000 revs below redline because i dont feel like the car is still accelerating at that point but maybe i should stick in third until higher revs. anyone knows a good webpage where i could get more info about how to take a corner and get out with a good accelerating? ill take bmwi6 advice and shift when im ike 100 revs below red line. thanks guys i know im a noob but i want to be a little faster and some advice would come in handy

Make sure your air filter is clean or just swap it with a K&N

At that altitude, you will lose about 25% of your power compared with about 10% on the turbocharged MCS. You should be fairly close to the slightly lighter MCS if you use all of your rev range, though.

Close to the redline on each shift is normally the best technique on naturally aspirated BMW engines, but you may have to experiment.

At 2500 feet, power loss on a normally aspirated engine is roughly 7.5% compared to sea level when using standard temperature (+15 C). The turbocharged car would lose nothing.

That's correct, but the OP quoted 2500 metres (8200 feet), not 2500 feet.

At that altitude the MCS will not be able to fully compensate with a stock engine map. It will lose a lot less power than a NA engine, but still will not be making optimal power compared with sea level.

Ahh OK, my mistake. I didn't catch the mts abreviation for meters. I thought he meant mountains.
